Don’t call it a comeback, but Arrow Video is full of revivals and a rejuvenations with their August releases. First is Poseidon that tells the tale of an ill-fated New Year’s Eve cruise on a luxury liner. After the posh crowd counts down to midnight, a massive rouge wave knocks the ship upside down. While other passengers and the captain stay in the ballroom waiting for help, Kurt Russell leads a group the includes John Lucas, Richard Dreyfuss and Emmy Rossum to the bottom of the ship that’s now the only part above water. Can they survive this water disaster? The remake was directed by Wolfgang Peterson who had previously directed the classic Das Boot about a U Boat that constantly in danger of being a watery grave. The 4K UHD lets you feel like the room is flooding around you. Perpetrator is recent film about a young girl who discovers what happens to her when she turns 18. Helping her make this transition is Alicia Silverstone (Clueless). She’s great as an Aunt who attempts to help her supernatural niece. Writer-director Jennifer Reeder has created another great high school is hell movie. Finally we get back to the revival of Leatherface from the Aughties. Director Marcus Nispel (Friday the 13th) reminds us why the Lone Star State is dangerous with his remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. A group of unsuspecting teenagers including Jessica Biel (Blade:Trinity) are heading to a big rock concert when they pick up the wrong hitchhiker. This leads to them dealing with a freakish cop (R. Lee Ermey, Full Metal Jacket) and stumbling across Leatherface (Andrew Bryniarski, Pearl Harbor) with his chainsaw. I don’t think these kids are going to get to see Humble Pie tear up the festival. The remake was a hit so they produced The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. We learn how Leatherface was born on the slaughterhouse floor. We also see how R. Lee Ermey became the sheriff of the town. All the answers are given as to how this little family of cannibals put their tiny town in Texas on the horror map. Both The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning are arriving on 4K UHD so you can see in deeper detail how Leatherface chops up pesky teen tourists. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre [Limited Edition]
After picking up a traumatized young hitchhiker, five friends find themselves stalked and hunted by a deformed chainsaw-wielding loon
![The Texas Chainsaw Massacre [Limited Edition]](https://mvd.cloud/images/AV645.jpg)
For its inaugural film, Michael Bay’s studio Platinum Dunes brought together scriptwriter Scott Kosar (The Machinist) and director Marcus Nispel (2009’s Friday the 13th) for a grisly update of Tobe Hooper’s classic tale of Texan terror. The result would conquer the 2003 box office, introducing a new generation of genre fans to the franchise. A group of carefree young adults’ road trip through Texas is cut short when the panic-stricken hitchhiker they’ve picked up shoots herself in the back of their vehicle. Desperate to find help, our heroes are directed to the home of the local Sheriff, but little do they know they are stumbling into the lair of the Hewitts, the most violent family in all of Texas, including their chainsaw-wielding son. Described by critic Roger Ebert as “vile, ugly and brutal”, 2003’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a boundary pushing, agonizingly violent gorefest masterpiece ready to traumatize and delight horror fans anew with this brand new 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray edition!
