As someone who grew up in the ’70s, Bigfoot was everywhere. There were constantly people debating the existence of the large hairy missing link creature that roamed the Pacific Northwest. Bigfoot appeared in the best episodes of The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman. People just couldn’t get enough of the myth who might be part man. There was eventually a Bigfoot pizza. Anytime you’d look up the movie listings, there was a drive-in showing a Bigfoot related movie as part of a double feature. The Beast and The Vixens provides not even the Big Foot action, but gives viewers women eager to make the nature scene.
The movie opens with an authority figure holding binoculars in the woods and giving a rundown of Bigfoot and Yeti. We are warned that the story we are about to see “could be true.” That’s more of a promise than those TV shows about aliens and digging up an island in Canada. The story (that might be true) opens with a woman stripping down to fully sunbath in the woods. She gets abducted by Bigfoot and taken to his cave. Turns out there’s another woman already there. She points out that the creature hasn’t touched her and brings her food. Unknowingly Uschi Digard (Supervixen) and a girlfriend check into a cabin for a vacation. They get comfortable with each other so they don’t notice the hunters showing up. The hunters are have criminal backgrounds are up to no good. They are hunting for a hippie girl who may have taken their loot. A couple shows up in a VW Beetle and getting wild in the wilderness. What’s astounding is the guy has more hair on his back than Bigfoot.
The Beast And The Vixens is fun for everyone in the drive-in back in 1974. First of it delivers on the Bigfoot. The big hairy actor is always lurking in the woodsy setting. For people eager for the Vixen action, we get a real vixen with Uschi Digard. She’s one of the queens of Russ Meyer’s late career cinema. If you’re looking for roughie action, the hunters are eager to get nasty with the rest of the cast. For those wanting carnality in their trip to the woods, there’s plenty of cast members making the nature scene. Plus the introduction with the ranger character almost make this educational. This is all the food groups necessary for a well balanced Drive-in diet. The Beast And The Vixens is an exotic and erotic cryptozoology delight.

The Video is 1.33:1 full frame. The transfer is taken off a release print so it’s rather rough, but has good details. You’ll see how hairy the bigfoot suit is. The Audio is DTS-HD MA 2.0 mono. You’ll hear the big feet crunch around the woods.
Demon Dave & Joe’s “Savage Tracks” Audio Commentary are in fact Joe Rubin of Vinegar Syndrome and David Gregory from Severin Films. So it’s two guys who love a film of this nature. They talk about how they found the film cans in an estate sale. They talking about the variations in the movie’s release.
