Blu-ray Review: Little Corey Gorey

Blu-ray Reviews, Reviews, Top Story

As a Corey, I find it my personal responsibility to review Little Corey Gorey to see if the film is authentically Corey. Can it really be a true Corey experience? Does it contain the necessary Corey craziness required? Little Corey Gorey is a tale of a school kid who finds himself in a bad way when he moves to a new town. This was an indie movie made in the late ’80s and has all the great qualities of that era. Little Corey Gorey goes beyond the John Hughes ’80s high school flicks.

Little Corey (Quiet Fire‘s Todd Fortune) and his stepbrother Biff (Wizards of the Demon Seed‘s Greg Sachs) are unpacking the U-Haul into their new nice suburban home. However things are already starting off badly. His nasty stepmother (They Still Call Me Bruce‘s Pat Gallagher) is pissed off because she can’t find her TV remote. She orders Biff to use the belt on Corey. Instead of just beating Corey with the belt; his brutal brother uses the leather for a noose and lets his stepsibling stay on his tiptoes to keep from choking to death. Things haven’t been good for the kid since the stepmother was behind the wheel and wrecked. This killed Corey’s dad and left giant scars on Corey’s face. Corey shows up at school and wants to befriend the school’s hot girl. She is not interested although she might be impressed if he can score good Ozzy Osbourne seats. Biff on the other hand is scoring cocaine from his sleazy pal in a van. When Corey does get the tickets, instead of giving them to her at school, he breaks into her house and sneaks into her bedroom. He also sniffs a few things in her closet and brings home a souvenir. Things get gruesome when Corey and Biff finally have a massive fight after Biff ruins his dream date. The struggle destroys the bathroom and something worse happens. Corey has to clean up the scene and take care of his stepmother. How much worse and grotesque will things get for Corey?

Little Corey Gorey is a brilliant gem of messed up ’80s indie cinema. This is the first time the movie has been uncut since it was released on VHS in the early ’90s. You’ll get to see all the nastiness. There’s a disgusting scene with a Domino’s Pizza that was probably not approved by corporate. The obscure metal soundtrack is excellent. Biff’s room has the video poster for the banned adult feature New Wave Hookers that stars Traci Lords. The fact that Corey is an abused teen, but he is also sleezy makes this a John Waters After School Special. Divine (Hairspray) was supposed to play the Stepmother which makes a lot of sense. That’s not to discount the performance of Pat Gallagher who seems to channel Divine and Edith Massey. There’s so much warped goodness to make Little Corey Gorey wicked fun. Little Corey Gorey is Corey approved.
