Randy & The Mob with Walton Goggins comes to Blu-ray in April

Disc Announcements, News

Walton Goggins has become a force in TV over the last few years. If you’re not watching him on The White Lotus and The Righteous Gemstones, chances are you’ve been inundated with him as the spokesperson for Walmart. He’s even the guy inside the Grinch suit during their Christmas ads. Turns out Goggins has been a working actor for decades including being part of an Oscar winning short film. Randy & The Mob is an early leading role for him. When a Southern hustler (Actor/Director Ray McKinnon) screws up on a loan from a mafia connected loan shark, Walton Goggins is sent down to make things right. Since this is a comedy, Goggins doesn’t go straight for the knees. We see his passion for clogging on the screen. Along with the feature film, there’s the Oscar winning short “The Accountant” that had McKinnon (acting and directing) and Goggins (also producing) dealing with a farm in trouble. If you’ve been loving Goggins recent work, you deserve to appreciate his Oscar winning performance when the Blu-ray comes out in April. Here’s the press release from Lightyear Entertainment.

On April 7th, Lightyear Entertainment proudly presents the global Blu-ray debut of the crime comedy Randy & the Mob, featuring a brand new 4K restoration from the original film materials, plus the Oscar-winning short The Accountant, and bonus features.

Good ol’ boy Randy Pearson (Ray McKinnonDeadwood & O Brother, Where Art Thou?) runs numerous businesses in a small Georgia town. The problem is that none of them are prosperous. This leads the aspiring entrepreneur to borrow cash from Franco (Paul Ben-VictorThe Wire), a loan shark connected to the mob. Things get complicated when the IRS comes calling over his tax debt. Randy tries to hustle money from his wife (Lisa BlountAn Officer and a Gentleman) and begs for bucks from his estranged gay twin brother Cecil (also Ray McKinnon) to no avail. An impatient Franco sends Tino Armani (Oscar winner Walton GogginsThe Righteous Gemstones & The White Lotus) to make things right with Randy and his floundering companies. Tino applies a mobster makeover to Randy’s business plan while pursuing his love of clog dancing. Is Randy going to survive his time with Tino?

This was an early leading role for Walton Goggins, who over the last few years has become the King of HBO and ubiquitous in TV commercials. The film features appearances by Vic Polizos (Harlem Nights), Bill Nunn (Do The Right Thing) and Burt Reynolds (Smokey and The Bandit). Star Ray McKinnon wrote and directed Randy & the Mob

The Blu-ray also includes Ray McKinnon’s The Accountant, with McKinnon in the leading role, and with Walton Goggins and Lisa Blount. The O’Dell brothers (Walton Goggins and Eddie King) call in an accountant (Ray McKinnon) to help save their family farm. The accountant comes up with an unorthodox financial salvation. Can the brothers go along with the plan? The Accountant won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film in 2001.

The Special Features include a making-of featurette, plus cast and crew interviews.

“Filmmaker-actor Ray McKinnon voices his Southern drawl in this amusing, feel-good comedy.”  — Duane Byrge, Hollywood Reporter
