After reading about the fact that Jackie Chan made a 3D movie when he was breaking out in the ’90s, Magnificent Bodyguards has finally arrived with the 3D in full effect. Finally you’ll know what it’s like to be part of Jackie Chan’s Stunt Team as he keeps his fists and weapons flying at your face. The discs will let you watch with the red/blue glasses or the 3D Blu-ray system if you have the TV and player. There’s also a 2D version that keeps Jackie Chan out of your family room. The movie was made by the legendary Wei Lo who introduced the world to Bruce Lee with The Big Boss and Fist of Fury. But Bruce Lee never leapt out of the screen like Jackie Chan did in this early starring role. The Blu-ray set comes out at the end of the month so it’s the right way to celebrate the end of Kung Fu June. Here’s the press release from 88 Films with all the details:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
88 Films Announces Jackie Chan’s 3D Extravaganza
Magnificent Bodyguards
in a Special Edition 3D Blu-ray Collection
6/30/26

88 Films is proud to announce the June 30 release of Jackie Chan’s action-packed classic, Magnificent Bodyguards, in a Special Edition Blu-ray set featuring a Real-D 3D Blu-ray in addition to a Standard Blu-ray with Anaglyph 3D and 2D Options. This Special Edition release features a brand new 2K restoration from the original camera negatives.
Magnificent Bodyguards was revolutionary as legendary director Wei Lo (The Big Boss, Fist of Fury) introduced 3D filmmaking to Hong Kong for the first time. After launching the career of Bruce Lee, Wei Lo wanted his newest discovery, Jackie Chan, to break out of the screen with his explosive martial arts moves.
Lady Nan (Wang Ping, The Chinese Boxer) must transport her sick brother through the treacherous “Stormy Hills” to the capital city to see the only doctor with a cure. Most of the dangers on the road are from bandits who are eager to attack travelers. Lord Ting Chung (Jackie Chan, Project A) offers to be her bodyguard for the journey to save her brother’s life. Chung knows this is not a one-man job and brings others onto the team, including a leather smith (Siu-Lung Leung, better known as Bruce Leung, Kung Fu Hustle) and the ruthless Tsang (James Tien, Fist of Fury). They encounter ruthless people ready to attack and stop the sickly brother from his medical appointment. Chung gets a sense that there is a bit of royal intrigue involving his ailing client.
Even though the film was shot in 3D, Magnificent Bodyguards has until now only been available in 2D on various video formats in North America. This Special Edition marks the highly-anticipated global debut of the 3D Blu-ray release. Longtime fans can finally fully experience the action as it was meant to be. Jackie Chan, James Tien, and Siu-Lung Leung battle monks, bandits, and royal soldiers in 3D so their blows and weapons are coming right at you. The Real-D 3D Blu-ray works on 3D Blu-ray players hooked up to 3D HDTVs. The Anaglyph 3D on the Blu-ray disc allows a viewer to wear the blue and red lens glasses and enjoy the 3D effect on a normal Blu-ray player and HDTV.
