As summer heats up, Arrow Video gets blazing with five titles coming out. The first is People Vs. Larry Flynt arriving on 4K UHD. This is the story of Hustler magazine’s outlandish publisher from director Miloš Forman (Man In The Moon) and screenwriters Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (My Name Is Dolemite). The film shows how Larry went from a child moonshiner to a stripclub owner in Cincinnati to finally the publisher of a magazine that challenged Playboy and Penthouse for newsstand domination. Woody Harrelson grabs the smutty Flynt at his core. This was also during the time when Courtney Love was fun to watch on the screen at this time. She goes from underaged stripper to Larry’s wife. While you’d expect a 30-year-old movie to be out of date, Flynt’s battles against prudish hypocrites is back as Congress and banks attempts to “clean up” the internet. Flynt’s battles are still happening for others. Ju-On: The Grudge is one of the main films you need to watch immediately when you get into the J-Horror. The movie deals with a curse on a home after a family is killed inside. The new residents deal with the evil spirits inside that can be carried outside the home to attack others. The film was remade in America as just The Grudge.

If you’re pumped up for The Odyssey, you can see Homer’s The Iliad (plus the early part of The Odyssey) in Troy by Wolfgang Peterson (Das Boot and Air Force One). Helen of Troy skips off with Paris, a Prince of Persia. Helen’s husband, the King of Sparta demands his brother the King of Greece load the troops up in boats and get his girl back. Greece’s hottest warrior Achilles (True Romance‘s Brad Pitt) is not too happy about the King. Things get testy between the two as the siege of Troy gets longer and longer. Brad Pitt looks great as he’s slicing up the enemies of Greece. If you watch Troy, you can inform everybody in line about what happened by The Odyssey starts. Shogun’s Ninja brings us even more Sonny Chiba (The Street Fighter) on Blu-ray. Although this time he’s the bad guy. He gets ordered to take over a province and hunt for the ruling family’s hidden gold. But after a decade, he can’t find anything. Hiroyuki Sanada (Avengers: Endgame) returns after a decade to take back his family’s power and run off Chiba and his men. How will he do this? By training his people in the way of ninja warfare. The martial arts action is in high gear thanks to Sonny Chiba being in charge of the fighting. Director James Mangold (Copland) brings on the mystery with Identity. A bunch of famous faces led by John Cusack (Say Anything) get stuck in a hotel on a stormy night in Nevada. During the course of the night, guests get picked off. Who is the killer in the registry? The movie is an intense Whodunit.

On August 11, the iconic J-Horror Ju-On: The Grudge arrives on 4K UHD. Writer-director Takashi Shimizu unleashes a deadly curse born from violent rage, transforming an ordinary home into a place of inescapable terror. The Limited Edition release features a 4K restoration from the original camera negative by Arrow Films, hours of special features, and newly commissioned extras. 

Social worker Rika (Megumi Okina, Shutter) visits the Tokunaga family’s home to care for an elderly woman, only to discover that the house carries a horrifying legacy. On August 18, Troy, Wolfgang Petersen’s epic action blockbuster set against the legendary Trojan War, arrives on 4K UHD just in time for the theatrical debut of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. Prince Hector of Troy (Eric Bana, Hulk) signs a peace treaty with Menelaus, King of Sparta (Brendan Gleeson, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), but peace is short-lived when his brother Paris (Orlando Bloom, The Lord of the Rings) brings Sparta’s Queen Helen (Diane Kruger, Inglourious Basterds) back to Troy. Menelaus turns to his brother Agamemnon, King of the Greeks (Brian Cox, Succession), who launches an attack on Troy to retrieve Helen and expand his own power. On August 25, the hyperviolent Japanese karate and swordplay cult sensation Shogun’s Ninja arrives on Blu-ray. The film marks the first starring role for Hiroyuki Sanada (Ring, John Wick: Chapter 4, Shogun) and was directed by Norifumi Suzuki (Wandering Ginza Butterfly). The Limited Edition release features a High Definition (1080p) Blu-ray presentation, hours of special features, and newly commissioned extras.  

During Japan’s Warring States era, warlord Toyotomi Hideyori (Asao Koike, G.I. Samurai) invades Iga province in search of the hidden gold of the Momochi clan. Acting on his ruler’s orders, the vicious Shiranui Shōgen (Sonny Chiba, Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair) will stop at nothing to claim it. After a decade in exile, Takamaru Momochi (Hiroyuki Sanada, Avengers: Endgame) returns to Iga and rallies warriors once loyal to his father, training them in the ninja arts to free their homeland. Also on August 25, the chilling serial killer whodunit Identity arrives on 4K UHD. Director James Mangold (The Wolverine, Logan) brings intense psychological horror to an Agatha Christie-influenced murder mystery. The Limited Edition release features both the Theatrical and Extended Cuts, hours of special features, and newly commissioned extras. 

On a stormy night in the Nevada desert, ten strangers are stranded at an isolated motel, including an aging actress (Rebecca De Mornay, Risky Business), her limo driver (John Cusack, Hot Tub Time Machine), and a married couple in crisis played by John C.
