Because T.A.G.: The Assassination Game is going to be making a comeback. This is an ’80s Teen Flick about an amazing game being played on a college campus. Before Linda Hamilton was hunting down Terminators from the future, she was tracking down and shooting her classmates. T.A.G. lets students get to track down and take out rival classmates in a James Bond inspired game. Before he was a Nerd, Robert Carradine was a hip kid on the school newspaper. He decides to tag along with Linda while she plays T.A.G. to write a story about the game. Except one of the players decides to get serious about being the last assassin standing. On September 8th, Synapse Films will release director Nick Castle’s T.A.G.: The Assassination Game on Blu-ray.
College newspaper reporter Alex Marsh (Robert Carradine, Revenge of the Nerds) investigates the latest campus craze after Susan Swayze (Linda Hamilton, The Terminator, in her first movie role) takes refuge in his dorm room during a game. T.A.G.: The Assassination Game allows students to sneak around the school looking for assigned targets to “shoot.”
They each get to play James Bond, except with a suction-cup dart gun instead of a lethal high-tech gadget. Susan allows Alex to follow along so he can understand the allure and adrenaline rush of playing the game. She receives an envelope containing information on her next target, and the hunt is on.
Alex thinks he’s writing a fun feature article about the dreamy Susan and their adventure. But the story turns into a true-crime report when one player brings an actual gun into the game. The psychotic student plans on winning the big tournament by being the last T.A.G. contestant alive on campus. Can Susan and Alex evade a real assassin?
T.A.G.: The Assassination Game is a cult classic from the teenage body-count era of the early ‘80s. There are plenty of familiar faces on campus, including Kristine DeBell (Meatballs), Perry Lang (Alligator), John Mengatti (Meatballs Part II), Michael Winslow (Police Academy), Xander Berkeley (Terminator 2: Judgment Day), Bruce Abbott (Re-Animator), and Forest Whitaker (Academy Award-winner for Best Actor in The Last King of
Scotland).
Writer/director Nick Castle (The Last Starfighter and Dennis the Menace) initially become well-known for being the original Michael Myers behind the mask in John Carpenter’s Halloween. In his directorial debut, he goes behind the camera and turns a teen horror story into an engaging thriller.
The Blu-ray special features for T.A.G.: The Assassination Game include an audio commentary with director Nick Castle and star Robert Carradine, along with the original theatrical trailer.
