Outrageous ’90s Cult Horror/Comedy Sensation

Makes its 4K Ultra HD Debut

On October 13, Synapse Films will release director Frank Henenlotter’s Frankenhooker in separate 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray editions.

Frankenhooker blends over-the-top horror, dark comedy, and gleefully twisted practical effects into one unforgettable genre mash-up. When grieving medical student Jeffrey Franken (James Lorinz, King of New York) turns to some highly unconventional methods to bring his fiancée Elizabeth (Patty Mullen, Doom Asylum & Penthouse Pet of the Year) back, things quickly spiral into a bizarre and bloody nightmare. Equal parts outrageous, hilarious, and gloriously unhinged, Frankenhooker remains a singular staple of ’90s cult cinema.

The cast also includes Louise Lasser (Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman), Shirley Stoler (The
Honeymoon Killers
), and John Zacherle (legendary TV horror host Zacherley). A few of the actresses who eventually provide limbs for the new Elizabeth include Lia Chang (Big Trouble in Little China), Charlotte Kemp (Playboy Playmate of the Month, December 1982), Jennifer Delora (Robot Holocaust), and Heather Hunter (AVN Hall of Fame). Co-writer and director Frank Henenlotter (Basket Case, Brain Damage) reimagines the Frankenstein story with his signature blend of twisted horror and dark comedy.

The 4K Ultra HD edition of Frankenhooker features an all-new 2025 Dolby Vision 4K restoration, created from the archival uncut original 35mm vault materials. The Blu-ray edition marks the film’s return to Blu-ray, presenting the complete 85-minute uncut feature in its acclaimed new 2025 restoration.

The special features include audio commentary with director Frank Henenlotter and make-up effects designer Gabe Bartalos; A Salad That Was Once Named Elizabeth – Patty Mullen featurette; A Stitch in Time: The Make-Up Effects of Frankenhooker – Gabe Bartalos featurette; Turning Tricks: Jennifer Delora Remembers Frankenhooker; Jennifer Delora’s Frankenhooker Photo Scrapbook; and the theatrical trailer.
