10 Thoughts On WWE Smackdown 11.04.2011 — Mark Henry, Daniel Bryan, Randy Orton

Reviews, Shows, Top Story, TV Shows

Hello ladies and gentleman! Kelly Floyd here, spoon feeding you my 10 thoughts on this week’s Smackdown. And I’m excited to do it, seeing as how this is the recap I have always wanted to do! Make sure to check out my buddy Mike Gojira’s Smackdown Report.

1. Well, what a way to kick off a show. The ever-entertaining Cody Rhodes taking on the increasingly-interesting Randy Orton in a street fight. Fresh off the intro, too! Less talking, more fighting. Just how I like it. Though it started rather…basic…it definitely didn’t stay that way for long. Though the only aspect of the match that indicated a street fight was the fact that they could assault and mangle outside the ring without fear of a countout, they sure did pack some punch. I loved watching a small child’s face nearly fall off when Randy’s head was slammed into the only thing separating the child and the Superstars: a barricade. And, as always, it was fun to watch the multiple incisions on the men’s bodies grow with each hit. Despite another Viper victory (sorry, my alliteration is out of control tonight), the first half hour of the show was definitely exhilarating.

2. I do, however, think that this whole face mask thing is getting a bit old. Both men looked strong, tough, and vicious throughout the match, but I’m sick of that damn mask. At first, it was a fun advantage. But come on. Rhodes used it approximately three times, at two different parts. And even Orton used it! I like what it adds to his gimmick, but tone it down. Make it a big weapon he utilizes for big victories.

3. Poor, poor Tyson Kidd. Anyway. Will WWE ever figure out what in the world to do with Ted DiBiase? I feel like he’s doing what he’s supposed to do…trottin’ along and executing his matches as he should be. But, alas, it still just doesn’t work for him. Maybe it’s time for him to deliver something on a silver platter that they can mold into an angle with substance. Until then, he’ll be okay, but not great.

4. So, okay. I need to ask. Melina has been gone for quite some time now. With that in mind, will Alicia Fox be the one to wear ridiculous items to the ring now? I’ve never seen that ridiculous bear/fox/whatever head piece before. But I’m pretty sure I’d like to set it on fire.

5. WWE is sending me mixed messages, here. I feel like they’re trying to convince me it isn’t snowing, when I’m outside. Nattie and Beth are supposed to be some kickass bitches, trying to bring–ahem–respect?…back to the Divas division. The anti-Diva. Beth has the belt, Nattie’s her partner in crime…so then why is it that they seem to lose every, single, stinkin’, match that they participate in? I just don’t really get it, I guess.

6. Christian interrupting Show to bring up the old “one more match” thing was great. Absolutely great. Enough time had passed that I’d let that whole thing slip to the back of my mind, right beside pogs and the lyrics to “Tearin’ Up My Heart”.

7. I have to say, it makes me giggle when Booker T and Michael Cole will be arguing to the point of dousing each other with runaway spittle, and Josh Mathews will just chime in after the rare silence the follows with a, “So, anyway…this match…”

8. So, the Muppets on Raw, eh? I don’t like to drag stuff from Raw into a Smackdown recap, but holy hell. On the one hand, I simply love the Muppets. Grew up watching them. They were awesome! But…why are they on my wrestling show? Aren’t they a bit old for the kiddos that watch? Or were we pulling the nostalgia card…

9. Epico seemed quite comfy in the ring with Sin Cara. They seemed to really feed off of each other and put on a decent showing for the crowd. Didn’t expect Hunico’s appearance, more so because of his garb…but I digress. I was confused for a moment by the pair teaming up, but weren’t they tag team champions in FCW?

10. Here’s where my fingers will tire of typing. Mark Henry and Daniel Bryan. How silly did this look? Yes, I said “silly”. No other word works. Daniel Bryan is one of the smallest wrestlers in WWE right now, and we throw him together with one of the largest? I’m not saying he couldn’t handle it, because we know he can. But it looked like a dachshund gnawing on the root of a tree. And I can’t say that I liked Bryan acting as a simple pawn for Henry and Show to go at it. Though that might honestly be the fact that I don’t enjoy Henry and Show going at it. Hm.
