Not-the-Weekend News

Archive

Hello all! Not a lot of news this week, no movie poster, and no Turning Point
or Armageddon (STILL haven’t finished downloading) means not a very long column.
Sorry guys. Next week I’m planning on having a little something about how I
got started as a wrestling fan. I was MIA for most of "Wrestling Appreciation
Month," so I figured this was as good a time as any. Plus, I used to get
a lot of pimps from my fellow writers, and not so much anymore, so I figured
I would try to "step it up" a notch.

News

Story
On today’s Opie & Anthony XM Show, Triple H publicly stated Lesnar wants
back in, but they won’t take him back because they resent the way he left. He
said Lesnar hadn’t established himself as enough of a star to leave that the
company will take him back now, but said at some point he’d probably be back.

One Asshole’s Opinion
Bonus points for not dodging around the question! Anyway, honestly, I don’t
blame them for resenting the way he left. Sure, it’s great that he wanted to
"chase his dream," but to leave high and dry the company that MADE
you, well, that’s kinda craptacular.

Hey, that’s great.

Story
Daniel Puder was officially announced tonight as the winner of the Tough Enough
competition. Puder, 23, was also announced as the first entrant into the Royal
Rumble on 1/30 in Fresno.

One Asshole’s Opinion
Can’t say I’m surprised, as that’s the person I had picked to win. Now, we’ll
see what actually becomes of him.

Story
Ric Flair and Mick Foley came to blows backstage at last night’s RAW.

Flair apparently threw a punch at Foley earlier before the show began, in Huntsville,
AL. Foley refused to shake Flair’s hand, and then made some sort of remark regarding
an autographed book, prompting Flair to swing. He connected with a punch, but
it was quickly broken up, and the show went on as planned.

Many backstage feel this was an angle to set up Wrestlemania

One Asshole’s Opinion
Well, I’m not sure why people would think a backstage altercation would be an
angle, but whatever. I think everyone needs to just settle down and not act
like children. Yeesh.

Story
At the Smackdown tapings last Tuesday, Chavo Guerrero exchanged words with Big
Show in the dressing room. Chavo is said to have gotten in Big Show’s
face and Big Show reportedly pushed him across the room. Agents and other wrestlers
quickly got between them and calmed the situation down before things went any
further.

One Asshole’s Opinion
Wow, what a dumb bastard.

Story
The following is a word for word transcription of the conversation between Ivory
and Todd Grisham following a promo for Muhammad Hassan .

Grisham: Also tomorrow night, Muhammad Hassan makes his debut, in the ring on
Raw.
Ivory: Well, you’re going to be there, right?
Grisham: Yes.
Ivory: I’m just asking, how are you going to get to Huntsville?
Grisham: I’m driving.
Ivory: Good, because I don’t want you to be flying, if you get my drift.

Of course this is just the latest in a storyline many people are finding to
be very offensive. There is currently no word from WWE on this story.

One Asshole’s Opinion
Good lord. Like this angle isn’t bad enough without those sorts of comments.
I hate, hate, HATE stupid, bullshit, knee-jerk American patriotism. It really
makes me embarrassed for my country, as all it does is make us look like a bunch
of ignorant yokels. WWE fans will chant "USA" at ANYONE from a different
country, and it’s just the stupidest thing ever. No wonder the world hates us;
I don’t blame them.

The Adventure of Links

Gordi
continues along with his personal wrestling story. Check it out, as the whole
thing has been excellent.

gloomchen,
as always, is required reading.

Eric is
back, and back again.

Hyatte
shows up! Again!

Read Mathan‘s
Who’s Who in the DCU and Jim‘s
Marvel Handbook, just like I KNOW you do every week.

Check out Bufton,
our newest writer. Good stuff.

And, I would be remiss if I didn’t pimp myself, as I was busy last week. I
was Fernandez‘s
guest in the Jukebox, so check out my music picks. Also, I made my debut as
a reviewer for the Nexus this week, reviewing District
X
and Nightcrawler.
Give ’em a look!

A quick little diatribe

I have a few quick things to lash out about, so bear with me. One is in regards
to the Raw announce team, and two are in regards to my fellow IWCers.

Why is it so hard for JR and King to say "Snitsky"? Every single
time they say his name, they say "Schnitsky." Professionals indeed.

Ok, my fellow writers, take note: they’ve been on our TVs for long enough now
that you should be able to properly spell "Basham." That’s an "AM"
at the end, not an "EM." Not that difficult.

And another thing for you IWC people: when speaking about Raven and his promos,
it’s "Quoth the Raven," not "Quote the Raven." Again, not
that difficult.

End diatribe.

Raw

Orton vs. Edge was pretty good, but my lord, I HATE WWE Main Event Style. It’s
just way too boring for my tastes, and there are entirely too many chinlocks.

I’m loving Bastista on the mic.

It’s been said before, but it’s worth saying again. Snitsky is quite possibly
the ugliest guy I’ve ever seen.

I still hope that Simon Dean’s angle with the Hurricane leads to him becoming
a super hero (Nova!).

I liked the end of the Evolution vs. Benoit/Jericho match. I thought it was
a good build for a number of angles.

As previously mentioned, I HATE this Arab/American angle. I think it’s stupid
and offensive, not to mention the fact that I hate when I agree with the heels.

Believe it or not, I still haven’t seen an Elimination Chamber match, so I’m
looking forward to the one next month. Not a bloody clue who’ll win it, though.

Well, that’ll do it for this week. Keep the e-mails and IMs coming, and I’ll
see you here next Friday.
