Lost – Recap – Episode 2-13

Archive

Previously, on Lost: Charlie flips out and gets punched out by Locke after almost kidnapping Aaron multiple times, and one of the Others claims the island as his, so Jack stands down but asks Ana-Lucia to train an army to go to war.

Locke opens up the gun locker for Jack, and then hands over the suitcase, finally. Jack notices the Virgin Marys, mentioning that it’s Charlie’s stash and that he kept them in the statues because of superstition. Jack asks for the locker combination, and after a tense moment between the two, he finally tells it to someone else, and Jack instantly remembers it, but Locke warns that Jack should lock the medicine up in that locker as well.

And we go to Sawyer approaching Charlie and talking trash to him regarding past events, but Charlie mentions that Jack is ransacking Sawyer’s tent, getting Sawyer’s medicine since it belongs to the people now. Sawyer threatens Jack, but Jack doesn’t budge and takes Sawyer’s medication, getting an evil look out of Sawyer. Oh dear.

LOST.

Flashback: Sawyer has just finished up with a lady, and notices the clock in his peripheral vision, having to bail for a meeting. As he bails, the money falls out of his suitcase, and its fake money at that. Sawyer is caught red-handed, and furthermore didn’t take anything from the divorce, so he would’ve been hopeless anyway. She wants to be teached on the con business by Sawyer, though.

Back at the tent, Kate arrives to hand over Elegant magazine, but he lost his glasses on the raft so Kate agrees to read the magazine to Sawyer. Locke walks by, and mentions that Locke has needs too, just like any man. Sawyer then mentions Jack and Ana-L’s army, but not only was Sawyer not invited to these proceedings, neither was Kate. Interesting.

Hurley comes to Sayid with Bernard’s shortwave radio, but Sayid finds it useless since they’ve already tried with the transceiver and got the French woman’s recording. Hurley is trying to cheer up Sayid, but it’s just not working.

Jack was scheming to get the locker combination after all, and Ana-Lucia asks for it but then just claims to be joking. Weird.

Sun is in her garden, working on planting things as a storm approaches and she hears some rustling. It turns out to just be Vincent, but then he goes back into the tall grass and the rain pours down, and Sun is dragged away with a hood over her head. Kate and Sawyer hear her screams and run towards them, finding Sun bloody in the middle of the jungle, but still breathing. Sawyer wants Kate to get Jack, and everyone gathers around as the Doctor arrives, followed closely by Jin. Jack asks what happened, and Kate mentions that her hands were tied. Ana-L says it best: “They’re back.”

Locke doesn’t want to go on a search with guns, but Jack, Ana-Lucia and Sawyer all seem gung-ho and ready to go. Jack agrees to wait until Sun wakes up, but Kate and Sawyer want to investigate. Sun wonders how she managed to escape since she’s so small. And then they find the hood, similar to the one put on Kate’s head–but it’s a different hood…if it wasn’t them, then who? Could it have been one of them? Could have been, since it would be the right idea to con them into joining an army.

Flashback: Sawyer calls her partner Dimples, since the necklaces are obviously fake but the price tag is huge. Everyone’s scared, but they’re most scared about missing an opportunity. Sawyer launches the con, which involves her buying the necklaces when the guys don’t bite. It works like a charm.

Sun’s pulse is good, but Jack tells Jin to watch over her.

Meanwhile, Kate asks Jack how well they know Ana-Lucia, as the Others have been left alone so why would they attack us? Jack asks who it could’ve been, and Kate reiterates her feelings about Ana-Lucia. Jack shakes his head and walks away.

Ana-Lucia reports that Hurley and Steve have joined up with the army, and then Jack asks her straight-up what her whearabouts during the rainstorm were. Ana-Lucia wonders where he would get a silly idea like that from, but Jack doesn’t get a chance to answer as Claire comes running over with Aaron to announce that Sun has awakened.

Back with Sun and Jin, as Jack comes jogging up. Sun feels a little pain, and then explains Vincent, rain and the bag over her head. Sun didn’t see anything, but Jin answers something in Korean, and then comes up to Jack. “Gun! Gun! Gun.” Jack tries to calm down Jin as Sawyer and Kate watches from a distance with Sawyer mentioning that they seem ready to mount up. Ana-Lucia shoots a dirty look over to Kate and then Kate realizes it as a ploy for Ana-Lucia to get to the guns. Sawyer wants to go talk to Locke.

Flashback: She’s showering, but Sawyer seems to have done all the cons in the book, so she wants to do a “long con,” but Sawyer says that they need money to do a long con. She’s finally happy for once, even with $600,000 that she didn’t share with him. Sawyer wants them to go find an island somewhere and hang out, but she wants to do the long con and Sawyer seems convinced. Awesome, awesome work.

Locke is looking through books, “alphabetizing,” but James warns that Jack and his posse are on their way for guns. Locke wonders why James would do something like this. “‘Cause it’ll piss off Jack.” James recommends that he changes the combination, but Locke says that will only slow Jack down. Locke wants Sawyer to help him move the guns, so Sawyer agrees to press the button, but James doesn’t know when they’ll be there. That’s Locke’s problem.

Flashback: Sawyer is having lunch at the diner, when a fellow con man joins him and asks about the $600,000. Sawyer can’t finish the job, but Gordy warns that Sawyer owes him, so he’ll be more than happy to put a bullet in Sawyer and Cassidy’s ears.

Sawyer is stalling as he presses the button and Jack and Jin arrive. The gun locker is empty, but Sawyer isn’t giving up any information, but does hand over Sawyer’s painkillers. Jack goes to get in Sawyer’s face, but Jin calls him off.

Locke is on the beach, silent, as Jack comes back to the beach asking for the location of the guns. Locke takes responsibility for teaching Michael how to shoot and having him go stir-crazy, but Jack wants to know where the guns are. But Sawyer’s the one who has all the guns now. Sawyer complains about his stuff being taken without his permission and divided amongst the group, furthermore having Jack and Locke tell everyone what they’re going to do and when they’re going to do it. Sawyer’s done taking orders and now if you want the guns, you’re going to have to go through Sawyer. There’s a new sherrif in town, whether Sayid likes it or not.

Flashback: Cassidy has the money, but Sawyer comes by with Gordy–his partner in conning, and then reveals that Cassidy was the long con, which obviously upsets her, but Sawyer tries to calm her down, and finally reveals that Sawyer wasn’t going to take the money, and sends her to Sioux City before they’re both killed. She sneaks out, leaving Sawyer alone with the money and then saying that he loves her. Before telling her to scram.

Sawyer cleans his new toy, and Kate comes over to ask him how he did it, but a magician never tells his secrets. Kate mentions that he played them all, but Sawyer denies that he had anything to do with the kidnapping of Sun. Kate thinks that Sawyer is trying to get everyone to hate him. But Sawyer says that Kate runs and he cons. “Tiger don’t change his stripes.” That’s why he did it.

Hurley is reading through a manuscript of a mystery book, but Sayid hooked up the radio to get a signal. Sayid gets the Frenchwoman’s distress call…and Glenn Miller’s “Moonlight Serenade,” and it’s rather clear, but it could be coming from anywhere, thousands of miles away…Hurley wonders if it could be coming from any time, but Hurley’s just kidding. The radio goes static…

…and fades into Sawyer wandering through the jungle…but he’s wandering in the dark and finds Charlie, the one who followed Locke to find the location of the guns. Sawyer hands over the Virgin Mary as payment, but Charlie didn’t want that, he wanted Locke to look and feel like a fool. “Looks like Johnny Locke’s got a nemesis.” Charlie asks Sawyer to make sure that Sun never finds out about this kidnapping, but Sawyer claims they have bigger fish to fry. Charlie asks Sawyer what made Sawyer think of something like that.

Flashback: Cassidy leaves again, but this time we get the complete story as Sawyer walks out to Gordy’s car, steps right in with the money in tow…but Gordy isn’t there. Sawyer starts counting seconds, and then we cut to Sawyer walking back into Cassidy’s house, grabbing the money bag and going to walk out, but stopping to look at a picture of them, and then putting it face down on the shelf.

“I’m not a good person, Charlie. Never did a good thing in my life.”
