Rutgers Upsets Louisville

In what can be described with little hyperbole as the greatest upset of the last decade, Rutgers University, the state university of New Jersey, has defeated No. 3 Louisville, 28-25. This is the biggest win in school history for Rugters, in possibly the biggest game for them since they participated in the very first college football game ever, against Princeton back in 1869.

To give you an idea of how significant this upset is: this team had 7 wins in 2005, 4 in 2004, 5 in 2003, and a whopping 1 (yes, one) win in 2002. In their history (and remember – they go back as far as anyone), they’ve never beaten a team ranked higher than 15th. (And believe me, they’ve had chances.) This school was a national joke in football 4 years ago – and now they have a legitimate claim to a BCS bowl bid this year.

Of course, they’re going to get screwed out of any chance to participate in the national championship, because no one in any of the human polls gave them any chance whatsoever at the beginning of the year. (Which, by the way, is the primary reason college football polls should not be published until the 1st weekend in November — in case you were wondering.)
