Community – Episode 2-13 Recap

Reviews, Shows

Any time a show features a group of children chanting “We love drugs! We love drugs!”, you know you’re watching something amazing. I really, really enjoyed last night’s episode of Community. Everything about Annie’s anti-drug play was brilliant, from the way Annie was so concerned about sending out an anti-drug warning thanks to her checkered past, to the way Jeff and Britta couldn’t care less, to the way Pierce bought creative control for Annie – it all worked. Plus there was some killer buzzzzing from Troy and Abed.

I loved seeing Pierce watch old footage of his father doing a commercial with a child actor rather than his son. No wonder Pierce turned out to be such a creepy attention whore! The way he screwed up the play in every way possible was brilliant. Only Pierce would not see the problem with “Drugs” becoming the star of the show. And switching him out for a maniacal Chang in the last act was a great recovery.

Speaking of Chang, I’m still not on board with him and Shirley. And I’m not sure I ever will be. I just don’t want him to become part of the group! I like him as the weird, annoying outsider who I only see occasionally. Plus I want to see more of Malcom Jamal Warner.

Now let’s talk about the best lines and moments, shall we?

  • “Is Pierce marijuana, and does marijuana help people move faster? I thought it just made them custom paint vans and solve mysteries.” – Abed, brilliantly referencing Scooby Doo
  • The dean showing up in his own bee costume, for reasons totally unrelated to the play.
  • Annie telling Britta that she doesn’t react appropriately to anything.
  • I know we’ve seen it before, but can we discuss just how perfect Annie’s apartment is? The juxtaposition  of all the frilly pink stuff and the terrible neighborhood is perfect for her character.
  • I don’t know what’s better – Annie telling Pierce that she lives above a “marital aid store”, or her telling Pierce that she saved up all her money from the “period fairy”.
  • Jeff’s one-sided conversation with Abed about the incident with Britta’s text messages.
  • “Dragging Britta kicking and screaming into 1997.” – Jeff
  • Again, can we talk about how awesome Troy and Abed buzzing the funeral song was? Totally awesome!

What did you think of the episode? And you are looking forward to seeing the gang play Dungeons and Dragons next week?
