Natalie Portman falls for Thor

Jane Foster

Natalie Portman will star opposite Chris Hemsworth in the upcoming Thor film from Marvel Studios.

Portman will play an “update” on Jane Foster, a nurse who becomes Thor’s first love. She first appeared in the Marvel Comic Universe in 1962.

In the film, Thor reignites an ancient war amongst the gods and is banished to Earth as punishment. There Thor must learn what it takes to truly be a hero when Loki sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

The Paramount distributed film directed by Kenneth Branagh will be released on May 20, 2011. Production is set to start early next year.

The very busy Portman is currently shooting the David Gordon Green comedy Your Highness. Next up she will star in Darren Aronofsky’s supernatural thriller Black Swan and will also be in Jim Sheridan’s Brothers, along side Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire.

Hemsworth, who certainly made an impression with his fantastic, yet short, portrayal of George Kirk in the latest Star Trek film, will be seen next year in the Joss Whedon scripted horror film The Cabin In The Woods and a remake of Red Dawn.

It will be interesting to see what kind of chemistry Portman and new comer Hemsworth will be able to build on screen. But we will have a long time to wait and see.
