Indie Alert – Festival darling Expecting Mary Coming Soon

News

Inside Pulse has just received buzz about Expecting Mary, a indie to watch for. It’s played at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, the California Independent Film Festival, and the Prescott Film Festival and will soon be headed to a theater near you.

The film stars High School Musical vet Olesya Rulin as pregnant teen Mary, who is forced to leave her privileged life and settle in a trailer park in New Mexico with her grandparents and a cast of colorful characters. The diverse cast includes Elliot Gould, Linda Gray, Della Reese, Cybill Shepard, Gene Simmons (yes, that Gene Simmons), Cloris Leachman, and Fred Willard. Of course any time there’s a teen pregnancy in a film, it gets compared to Juno. There might be some similarities, but really I think Expecting Mary just might appeal to the ever growing fan base of the new MTV hit Teen Mom.

Writer Dan Gordon has written such acclaimed films as The Hurricane, Wyatt Earp, Passenger 57, and Murder in the First, but Expecting Mary is his first feature film directorial outing. It’s a different kind of film; the kind you can take your kids to see. Of course there does have to be a bit of gunslinging in a Gordon film. Rumor has it, Dancing With The Stars favorite Cloris Leachman wields a gun in Expecting Mary.

The Pulse: Expecting Mary is said to have a strong cast, strong script, and it’s supposed to be family friendly. With a cast like that, it seems to be a winner. Who wouldn’t want to introduce their kids to such acting greats? It’s currently being premiered in Tennessee with openings scheduled soon. I’ll be watching out for it.

Jenny is proud to be the First Lady of Inside Pulse Movies. She gives female and mommy perspective, and has two kids who help with rating family movies. (If they don't like 'em, what's the point?) She prefers horror movies to chick flicks, and she can easily hang with the guys as long as there are several frou-frou girlie drinks to be had.
