Uncharted 3 Sells 3.8 Million Copies On Release Day

News

One of the most anticipated video game titles of the fall was the PS3 exclusive Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. After Uncharted 2: Among Thieves received numerous accolades and several Game of the Year awards back in 2009, fans have been eagerly awaiting the next thrilling installment in the Uncharted franchise.

When Uncharted 3 dropped on November 1st there was some confusion as to how many units were sold. Previously, it was thought that 3.8 million copies were shipped worldwide. However, while the figure was right, it wasn’t in the number of titles shipped. It was in the number of units sold.

If this was the opening day of a Hollywood movie, Uncharted 3 would have had the highest opening total on record with an estimated $227.9 million.

Regarding the first-day figures, Nick Caplin, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s head of communications, remarked that “Uncharted 3 is a blockbuster and these incredible sales figures reflect that.”

“Consumers are clearly as eager to play the game as critics were to heap praise upon it, and the team at Naughty Dog deserve this fantastic reception at retail,” he added.
