SyFy Orders Pilot Script For Booster Gold

News

Talk about characters I’ve always wanted to see get their own TV series and never expected to see happen.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that SyFy is ordering a pilot script for a one hour television drama series based around the DC Comics character Booster Gold. Greg Berlanti (Brothers & Sisters, No Ordinary Family, Green Lantern) is on board to be the executive producer as it is coming through his production company, Berlanti Productions. Andrew Kreisberg (Fringe) is on board to write the script. Obviously DC Comics will be receiving an executive producer credit as well.

Here’s the premise, as quoted from THR.

The story will center on Booster Gold, a washed-up athlete from the future who travels back to the present in hopes of becoming the greatest super hero of all time. Instead of chasing criminals, however, his main priority is chasing fame and money. But Booster Gold discovers that being a hero takes more than just a megawatt smile, and that the future doesn’t happen without first protecting the present.

Now, I’m just hoping that’s not just THR’s take on the character, because while it’s completely accurate, I want that to be the take on the character by the writers! Seriously though, Booster Gold is one of the best characters to be moved to TV. You don’t need to bust the budget on special effects, his origin is purely science fiction, and the camera LOVES him.

Booster can currently be found in the DC Comics Relaunch title Justice League International, where he is the team leader.

And, of course, for me this is just fantastic news as anyone who knows me know that Booster Gold is my favorite character.
