Amir Khan & Floyd Mayweather Both Have Eyes On Kell Brook’s New IBF Title

Kell Brook is the talk of the boxing community.

After scoring a decision win over Shawn Porter to become the IBF champion, Kell Brook has his eyes set on Amir Khan. Despite repeated call outs, Khan had never shown an interest in a match against Brook… until now.

The bickering between the two welterweights began within minutes of the Sheffield star being crowned the new IBF welterweight champion following a majority points triumph over Shawn Porter.

“A fight with Kell Brook will be massive in the UK and I am not saying no,” Khan said on Sky Sports. “Kell thought I would say no to that fight but I am agreeing to it.”

“Listen, the British public want to see it,” Brook said.

Khan is returning to the ring in early December and even though Devon Alexander and Robert Guerrero have dibs on fighting him next, Khan chose not to ignore Brook’s challenge.

“I will take the fight… with both hands. I am a young fighter. I love boxing and I want to give the British fans what they want and come on, let’s get it on!”

In addition to Khan, it appears a showdown with Floyd Mayweather might also be in the cards for Brooks.

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn said that he will explore both options for his new prize fighter.

“I think you have to say Kell is now in the running to face Floyd Mayweather. Everyone in the division wants to fight Floyd, but if you hold a world title then you are more likely to face him than if you don’t. He’s an obvious opponent and Mayweather is a target for 2015.”
