Matt Brown Expresses Interesting In Facing Off Against Georges St-Pierre For GSP’s Return Fight

News

Matt Brown knows how to open the door when opportunity knocks.

Even though Georges St-Pierre hasn’t confirmed his UFC return and only that he has been cleared to start training again, this hasn’t prevented welterweight Matt Brown from being the first to call GSP out for a potential match in 2015.

“That’s a huge, huge fight. I’d love to have that fight. I always thought I matched up well with him,” Brown said on The Great MMA Debate podcast.

St-Pierre hasn’t seen action since his split-decision win over Johny Hendricks last November. After re-injuring his knee, GSP had to stop training completely as he was forced to rehabilitate it. The fighter recently started training again at the TriStar gym in Montreal. While no timetable for his return has been addressed, Brown believes the time is now to get his name on GSP’s first contract when he does inevitably return.

“I think I am in the right position for it. I’m not the champion, he’s not going to come back and get the championship fight right off the bat. I’m in the right position. I can look at it objectively on paper and see that he would be the favorite. I would hope that it would be a five rounder. I would love to do it. I’ve always wanted to fight Georges.”
