Writer-director-producer Nancy Meyers may be the master of odd actor pairings. As a screenwriter she penned a scenario that would find Goldie Hawn in the army (Private Benjamin). Then we had Diane Keaton as a super yuppie become the guardian of a newborn baby (Baby Boom).
Of course, who can forget her comedy in which a guy actually knows What Women Want, or the AARP-friendly relationship comedies that tell us Something’s Gotta Give and It’s Complicated.
She had Mel Gibson star opposite Helen Hunt. Jack Black, Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, and Jude Law paired together (in The Holiday). Meryl Streep caught between Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin.
Nancy Meyers’ latest finds Robert De Niro returning to the workforce as an intern in a company run by Anne Hathaway. The casting alone makes it appear as a reverse case of The Devil Wears Prada with Hathaway in the managerial role.
Set to arrive September 25, the comedy also features Nat Wolff (Paper Towns), Adam DeVine (Pitch Perfect), and Rene Russo.
