Will Smith recently assuaged any concerns that he may not be appearing in Bad Boys 3 (IMDb currently has him listed as only being rumored) by confirming that he and Martin Lawrence will once again team up as detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett. The confirmation was made while Smith was a guest on BBC Radio 1Xtra.
While there’s been speculation over the years if a third installment in the series would ever happen, there’s been movement behind the scenes with Joe Carnahan (The Grey, The A-Team)
likely to take over for Michael Bay. David Guggenheim, who penned the Denzel Washington-Ryan Reynolds thriller Safe House, is handling the screenplay.
The decision to return to the lucrative franchise was done recently. All it took was a hug.
In the interview Will Smith goes on to say, “I hadn’t seen [Lawrence] for about two years, and we just looked at each other. We hugged and in that moment we both knew we were making another Bad Boys. So we’re definitely doing another one.”
Bad Boys III, even without a director set in place or a firm production start date, is still slated to open in theaters February 17, 2017.
