Haunting.

That’s the best way to describe CTV’s new six-part original series, Cardinal, that premieres tonight.

Adapted from author Giles Blunt’s award-winning John Cardinal Mysteries series, Cardinal is a six-episode dramatic thriller that follows Detective John Cardinal (Billy Campbell, The Killing) on a chilling hunt for a brutal killer in a small Northern Ontario town. After being demoted from his position after refusing to let go of a case, the brooding officer returns to the Homicide Unit when the body of a missing 13-year-old is discovered. While on the hunt for the killer, Cardinal must also keep an eye on his new partner, Detective Lise Delorme (Karine Vanasse, Revenge) who he suspects of having an ulterior motive.

With only six episodes at its disposal, Cardinal wastes no time in establishing its central storyline while serving up a big surprises in its premiere. The show features a very high production value and the palpable chemistry between its leads is one of its strongest attributes. It is successfully able to quickly draw its viewer into the world of its mystery.

At CTV’s 2016 upfront presentation, I had the opportunity to catch up with my friend Karine Vanasse who gave me a sneak peek for what fans can expect from her latest work.
