Murtz On The Scene: Exclusive Interview With Time After Time‘s Josh Bowman At CTV Upfront 2016

Is it possible to humanize a serial killer?

That’s what Time After Time (that premieres tonight on CTV) attempts to do. Based on the novel and movie of the same name, the cat-and-mouse time-travelling adventure series sees famed science fiction writer H.G. Wells (Freddie Stroma, Unreal) transported to modern day Manhattan in his pursuit of notorious serial killer Jack The Ripper (Josh Bowman, Revenge).

While the show is based on the movie, it clearly also serves as a departure from it. Unlike the 1979 film that saw the characters travel to various moments in time, the television adaptation chooses to focus on the development of its characters instead of honing in on the time travel aspect. In fact, the show’s time machine is disabled by the end of tonight’s series premiere.

The show undoubtedly lives and dies by Bowman’s portrayal of the chief antagonist. The actor captures the thought pattern of a serial killer perfectly in his personification of Jack The Ripper and produces some great work when he delivers scenes that explain why his character relishes in murdering women.

At CTV’s 2016 upfront presentation, I had the opportunity to catch up with Josh Bowman who gave me a sneak peek for what fans can expect from the show. We discussed what it was like to play Jack The Ripper and why audiences always seem to have an appetite for shows about time travel. He also seemed to be a big fan of my suit!
