What To Look Forward To – 09/06 – Featuring Bombshells United #1, Star Wars: Captain Phasma #1, Kingsman, The Black Beetle, New TPBs & HCs & Much More!

Welcome to What To Look Forward To!

It’s good to be back! Here is a quick look at some highlights on the shelves this week. A few new series coming out, as well as a healthy stack of new TPBs and HCs to check out. And so, without further ado, let’s dive in…

New This Week:

Bombshells United #1 – Written by Marguerite Bennett, art by Marguerite Sauvage

  • In 1943, and after a long stay across Europe, Wonder Woman is heading back to the states to answer a call from Cassie Sandsmark and Donna Troy! What I found most interesting about the original series was the creativity of where and when certain characters were introduced and the backstories they were given in their setting; equally, what I’ll be most interested to see in this new series is who we’ll get to meet next. (Also, check out that Babs Tarr variant!)

Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi – Captain Phasma #1 – Written by Kelly Thompson, art by Marco Checchetto

  • Finally getting her moment in the spotlight, find out what happened to Phasma just before Starkiller Base was destroyed! She obviously plays an important role in The First Order and in Hux’s command, so it will be interesting to see what awaits her in this series as well as the upcoming movie.

Kingsman: The Red Diamond #1 – Written by Rob Williams, art by Simon Fraser

  • Just in time for the new movie, the long-awaited sequel to Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons smash hit! Join Rob Williams and Simon Fraser as the Kingsman take on an international terror cell. (To be clear and to the best of knowledge, this series is not the same as the upcoming movie.)

Daredevil #26 – Written by Charles Soule, art by Ron Garney

  • New arc, “Land of The Blind” starts here! An old ally has possibly resurfaced, but can Daredevil get to him when faced against an enemy he can’t sense?

Venomverse #1/Venomverse: War Stories #1 – Both written by Cullen Bunn, art by Iban Coello (Venomverse) and several (War Stories)

  • In the first series, Venom and his team of symbiote-infused heroes are transported off-world to discover they’re being hunted! Meanwhile in “War Stories”, find out what happened to the other Venomized heroes, starting with Punisher and Rocket Raccoon!

Motor Crush #6 – Written by Cameron Stewart, Babs Tarr, & Brenden Fletcher, art by Cameron Stewart

  • New arc! While Domino tries to get back to her family and friends, we get to learn more about her father’s past and why Crush affects Domino the way it does! (Kris Anka cover shown)

Scales and Scoundrels #1 – Written by Sebastian Girner, art by Galaad

  • Image’s newest fantasy adventure takes us to a land of dragons, dungeons, and labyrinths with hidden treasure! But can it stay hidden from the likes of Luvander! Find out in the all-ages tale from Sebastian Girner and Galaad!

Star Wars Adventures #1 – Written by Cavan Scott, art by Derek Charm

  • Speaking of all-ages, more Star Wars sequel-trilogy goodness, as we travel back to some of Rey’s early days back on Jakku (sorry, Finn.)

Other issues to look forward to:

Animosity: The Rise #3

Batman #30 – Kite-Man pt. 2!

Elsewhere #2 – Some of history’s greatest mysterious people seem to be ending up in a completely different dimension. Find issue #1 if you can, this is one you won’t want to miss.

Generations: Iron Man & Ironheart #1

Generations: Phoenix & Jean Grey #1

Collected Editions and OGNs:

The Black Beetle: Kara Bocek HC – If you missed the Black Beetle stories originally printed in Dark Horse Presents, fear not! Collected for the first time in one edition, follow the masked American hero as he travels across the Middle East in pursuit of a mysterious object. I also recommend finding any other BB you can, Francavilla has made something really special here.

Sweet Tooth Vol. 01 TPB – The Jeff Lemire classic, collects issues #1-12.

Kingsman: The Secret Service TPB – The original, collected in a new edition.

Man-Thing by R.L. Stine Vol. 01 TPB – The Goosebumps master brings his flare for horror to the Marvel Universe!

Star Wars: Darth Maul TPB – Check out this early mission in during Maul’s training, and meet up with some other familiar faces.
