Star Trek Discovery, Season 1, Episode 12 (S01 E12) Spoilers follow for episode entitled “Vaulting Ambition”.

The episode reveals Captain Gabriel Lorca’s HUGE Secret! This LITERALLY Changes EVERYTHING!

The U.S.S. Discovery is stuck in the Mirror Universe with series Michael Burnham (played by Sonequa Martin-Green) and Captain Gabriel Lorca (played by Jason Isaacs) assuming their Mirror Universe counterparts infiltrating the Terran Empire’s Empress Philippa Georgiou’s (played by Michelle Yeoh) ship.

Burnham has revealed herself as being from a different Universe and that spared her life. As the Empress opens a screen, we see she is sensitive to light. She reveals that this is the big difference between the two universes.

Burnham then has a series of flashbacks to “her” Lorca and comes to the realization that he is actually the Mirror Universe’s Gabriel Lorca who wants to be the Terran Empire’s emperor!

At the same time, we see Lorca been tortured by the brother of a lover of Mirror Universe Lorca; the torturer wants Lorca to say her name. Lorca gets the upper hand, tells him her name was Eva, but another woman came along, and then Lorca stomps on this antagonist’s head. THIS is the Mirror Universe Gabriel Lorca!

This changes EVERYTING! The whole spore drive subplot since day one has been Lorca’s efforts to get back to the Mirror Universe.

What happened to the Gabriel Lorca of Burnham’s universe? We may find out in the next episode which will likely explain Mirror Universe’s backstory and he got “here” so to speak.

There are three episodes left for Star Trek Discovery Season 1:
