Throughout the course of the season, Derek Kesseler went from being a Big Brother Canada novice to one of this season’s most skilled players. The Vancouver entrepreneur dominated competitions and almost made it as a finalist before being bested by his love interest this season in the second part of the final HOH competition.
I caught up with Derek immediately after the Big Brother Canada 6 finale on May 10 2018. We discussed a variety of subjects and I asked him if he would have cut Kaela had he won the final HOH. We also chatted about how he was able to convince Will to drop out of the voodoo doll competition. We talked about what the definition of a floater truly means and whether the better Big Brother Canada is somebody who wins competitions or somebody who doesn’t need to win anything and who relies solely on their social game. I asked Derek if he was surprised by the final vote that saw the jury award the win to Paras by an overwhelming majority. I also asked Derek if he felt like he was underestimated in the house with regard to his mental acumen. Finally, he talked to me about the future of his relationship with Kaela and if “Daela” will continue outside of the house.
