There’s no doubt that Jet Li is a legend when it comes to Hong Kong cinema. The man is one of the most recognizable stars the country has ever produced and his fluid, yet brutal style of screen Kung Fu made him one of the most important successors to Bruce Lee’s throne in regards to Martial Arts films. His legitimate fighting background gives him instant credibility when it comes to his screen presence, and he has never really disappointed when it came to those aspects of his films. Thing is, for most of his Hong Kong career, many of Li’s films tended to lean toward extreme fantasy, as wirework-heavy epics like the Once Upon a Time in China series or The Tai Chi Master ended up Li’s bread and butter, which didn’t always showcase what amazing form and elegance the man possessed. This is what makes a film like The Enforcer such an important movie in Li’s filmography. »»
Is this never-ending casting call for The Expendables? Or should it be, "How many Oscar nominees can we pair with world-class ass beaters"? Mickey Rourke is the newest actor to be added to Sylvester Stallone's next directorial effort. Already my pick for comeback of the year, Rourke will join Sly, and the call sheet of actors we've mentioned over the last few days and weeks. You have Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, and Forest Whitaker. Rourke will play an arms dealer who becomes the go-to guy for a group of mercenaries planning to topple a South American dictator. »»

Watching Fist of Legend is both a pleasurable and depressing. On the one hand, seeing Jet Li at his peak, in a martial arts film that seems to understand his talents, is one of the many delights of cinema. On the other hand, watching him go through the American studios to make a number of awful films over the years has been painful for Li fans, to say the least. »»
Where Fearless tries to really set itself apart from the rest of Li‘s films is in its philosophy, represented by the film's center section, as Yuanjia wanders into a remote village and really connects with his humanity for the first time. This is really where the best of the film's new material is added as well. Other than focus on a lot of action, this entire portion of the film is trying to reach you on an emotional level, which to be honest has been a rarity amongst most of Li‘s work. »»
