[Pop] Billboard Update: Ray Charles Debuts At #2

The legendary Ray Charles failed in his attempt to take the number 1 spot on the Billboard charts away from Tim McGraw. Charles’ final studio album, “Genius Loves Company”, debuted at #2 selling 202,000 copies. McGraw’s “Live Like You Were Dying”, an obvious slap in the face to the currently dead Ray Charles, sold 227,000 copies.

I know I’m not supposed to editorialize, but Tim McGraw should be ashamed of himself. Jill Scott and LL Cool J came in at 3 and 4, respectively.

Now That’s What I Call Music! Vol. 16 came in at 5 on the strength of people not owning CD burners. R. Kelly’s Happy People/U Saved Me statutory raped its way to 6. Young Buck’s Straight Outta Cashville came in at 7. Ashlee Simpson’s Autobiography slid all the way up to 8th place despite her lack of talent. Prince’s Musicology, arguably Prince’s worst album ever, ended up at 9 and Mase’s Welcome Back came in 10th.
