FOX has given pilot commitment to a military drama from writers John August and Jordan Mechner. The project is set up at 20th Century Fox TV.

August and Mechner are expected to co-write the pilot, with August executive producing and Mechner co-executive producing. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the drama focuses on two independent contractors with military ties and will be similar in tone to the feature “Three Kings.”

Mechner is the creator of the successful “Prince of Persia” videogames. He has been working with August on a feature film adaptation of the franchise that Jerry Bruckheimer would executive produce. August is co-writing the “Persia” script and is attached to direct.

August made his big break with the twisty, non-linear indie thriller “Go.” He received writing credits on both “Charlie’s Angels” films and has collaborated with Tim Burton on last winter’s “Big Fish” and on the upcoming “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”

On the small screen, August wrote for and co-executive produced the Dick Wolf drama “D.C.”
