Riding Coattails: Breaking Into The Boys' Club

Reasons Trump would be crazy not to hire Erin:
1. She’s a self-proclaimed “street hustler.”
2. She can litigate and scrub abs.
3. On Episode 5, Michael suggested Team Magna call their trailer business “Massage-A-Go-Go” and she responded with, “You’re a pig-a-go-go.”
4. She also called Michael “a boardroom cliche.”
5. Her favorite music is good disco.
6. She’s very photogenic.
7. Great hair!
8. She knows how to sell herself, as when she defended her actions as project manager of the vegetable porn commercial.
9. Her behind-the-scenes comments about her competition are scathing and hilarious.

Reasons Trump probably won’t hire her (based on his past choices):
1. She’s a girl.
2. She has a personality.

I think that any female with an ounce of piss and vinegar in her is doomed to remain on the sidelines of Donald Trump’s organization. While it’s true that Carolyn is his left-hand woman (George sits to his right), I think she’s an exception and a token that Trump throws out to the masses to cover up how very sexist and awful he really is. I’ve seen it too many times to believe otherwise: assertive, intelligent women make Donald Trump uncomfortable and ultimately, he treats them like dirt. During the first season, he appeared to respect Amy Henry but dismissed her after one of his colleagues likened her to a Stepford wife. Huh? And then, in season two, he dangled the big job in front of Jen and yanked it away at the last second. What a jerk.

And what a shame. I feel like I hardly got to know anything about Tara, and she’s already gone. Based on her confident description of her team name, Net Worth, to Mr. Trump during the premier episode, I was certain she’s stay in the game a bit longer. Unfortunately, she went the way of so many competent, likeable competitors before her: a scapegoat of a project manager who took the fall for a collective failure. It’s happened so many times before that I’m beginning to wonder why anyone would even want to volunteer to lead a team, since it seems like doing so increases one’s odds of getting fired to 50%. In fact, so far on this season, the only non-PM to get the boot has been Michael. All of the other casualties thus far (Todd, Brian, Danny, and Kristen) have been people who opted to lead their teams.

Oh, Verna quit, but she totally doesn’t count. I wonder if Trump will even invite her to the season finale.

The role of project manager presents a slippery slope to these apprentice wannabes. On one hand, everyone is encouraged to “step up to the plate” (speaking of boardroom cliches…) and prove that they can lead, yet those that do are often kicked out. Not that people haven’t been screwing up, because they have. But I honestly believe that Tara was a gem and deserved another shot. Audrey, on the other hand, is a kvetching little biotch who has a lot of growing up to do. The main reason Craig was probably talking down to her is that she’s a big baby and deserved it. I would have a hard time being civil around someone like her.

By contrast, I thought Tara behaved very professionally. She was never at the center of conflict. Yes, she missed the point of the game she was trying to advertise, but her overall people and management skills were far stronger than Audrey’s or Craig’s. Frankly, I think Trumpo fired her because he finds Audrey more attractive. I find it highly unlikely that Audrey will even make it past the next two or three tasks, but I think that for now, the Donald is holding onto her strictly for eye candy purposes.

As far as the other females on the Net Worth team are concerned, I believe that Tana will be the last one standing. Her poised, personable demeanor make her a natural on a lot of the tasks (she was great with the guests on the hotel task and the actors at the casting call). She also seemed deft at sidestepping the fights. I like Angie a lot, but I’m worried that her occasional abrasiveness will come back to bite her in the future. And although it’s unfair, I don’t think Trump would ever hire anyone with hair that cool.

On Magna, as I already stated, I think that Erin is the woman for the job. Stephanie’s days are definitely numbered, as everyone on her team seems to find her insufferable. Kendra appears to be a nice enough person, but I haven’t seen enough of her to say she kicks butt. For now, she’s coasting under the radar, but she’ll only be able to do that for so long before she’s in danger of getting the axe. If Kendra doesn’t lead within the next task or two, she’ll be in trouble. Then again, even if she does, she could still be in trouble. Tough game, isn’t it, chicas?

P.S. I’m loving Danny’s musical recaps! The vegetable porn song was especially brilliant. If he put out a CD, I would totally buy it.
