Ryan Merriman and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (both in The Ring Two) will star in Cheating Death: Final Destination 3 for New Line Cinema, according to The Hollywood Reporter
The story is set six years after the events of the first movie and centers on a senior in high school who has a premonition of a fatal amusement-park accident involving her and her friends. When the group of friends survive what would have been a roller-coaster accident, the teens begin to see what happens when someone cheats death.
James Wong, who directed the first two movies, will once again be directing the sequel.
New Line has approved FilmEngine to go forward with a sequel to The Butterfly Effect Ashton Kutcher and Amy Smart, stars of the original film, are not expected to be in the sequel.
The film is being put on the fasttrack and once a script is finalized, casting will begin. The storyline will most likely follow the path of the first film where a person will find that he has the ability to change his past but in doing so, alters future events with drastic consequences.
John Leonetti (Mortal Kombat: Annihilation) will be directing a script by Michael Weiss.
