Russian Court Rejects Simpsons Suit

A Russian broadcaster can breathe a little easier tonight after a suit attempting to stop the airing of two popular American shows was tossed out of Russian court.

REN-TV, which airs “The Simpsons” and “Family Guy” in Russia, has beaten a lawsuit launched by a parent that claimed the two shows were responsible for morally corrupting his son. Igor Smykov alleged that the shows caused his then 6-year-old son to become interested in drugs and to insult his mother.

The Moscow resident brought the suit three years ago, asking for about $12,000 in “moral damages” from REN-TV, according to news reports about the case.

Last week, a Russian court rejected Smykov’s claim as being baseless.
