The Amazing Race – Recap – Episode 8.5

Archive

Hopefully, you’ve checked out Jonathan and Steve’s column talking about illusions, and then The Race Insider which helps, in part, to back their comments up.

Are you ready? Let’s get it on!

Last week, teams traveled from the Kawai River Lodge in Botswana to Lucknow, India, where they searched some steel boxes and served tea. Rob and Amber reached Phil and the Mat, only receive the Kiwi’s Eyebrow and be told that the leg was not yet finished. Who will be eliminated”¦ next?

BTW, Patrick is still whining about Rob and Amber over on TV Guide. Seriously, would he have such a generous 15 minutes if they weren’t on the Race? Get over it, kid.

Standings after 7 and a half legs:
1) Rob (4) and Amber (3) a.k.a. Romber – Kirk
2) Ron (4) and Kelly (3) – Archer
3) Uchenna (4) and Joyce (3) – Sisko
4) Lynn (3) and Alex (4) a.k.a. Frick and Frack – Janeway
5) Meredith (4) and Gretchen (3) – Picard
x6) Brian (3) and Greg (3) a.k.a. The Dudes – Leg 7
x7) Ray (2) and Deana (2) – Leg 6 [FF]
x8) Susan (1) and Patrick (2) – Leg 4
x9) Debbie (1) and Bianca (1) – Leg 3
x10) Heidi (1) and Megan a.k.a. The Barbies – Leg 2
x11) Ryan and Chuck – Leg 1

Phil hands Romber their clue. They’re told to go to Platform 2 at the Lucknow Train Station and board a marked car, where they will need to wait around to get their clue.

Ron and Kelly get their clue from Phil.

Uchenna and Joyce are third, and get their clue.

Frick and Frack are fourth, and Frick is now freaking out.

Meanwhile, Meredith and Gretchen finish the Detour, and head over to Phil. They get some help to get to the mat. Phil hands them their clue.

Rob finds out that the train boards at 9pm and it’s 1pm right now, so the teams are bottlenecked. Everyone takes off to regroup later. Uchenna and Joyce notes that the Ron and Kelly-Romber alliance will be short-lived.

2100. Teams board the train. Sometime in the night, the conductor gives them their clue

Search for next clue at the Johdpur Train Station, meaning they’re on the train for about 24 hours. Lynn is upset because he doesn’t have his creature comforts with him. Ron and Kelly and Romber bond.

Johdpur Train Station. Head to the clock tower at Sodhar market for their next clue. All the teams take taxis, while Romber get help and are last out of the Station. The teams find out that the Tower doesn’t open until 10am, so they all find hotels. Rob enlists the help of a man named Sanjay for the next day.

Meredith and Gretchen and Frick and Frack get caught up in a wedding party.

Next day, teams head to the clock tower. Frick thinks that they’ve got good karma from crashing the wedding. The second Fast Forward is there. 10.5 miles to a temple for a Hindu ritual – head shaving. You may remember this from TAR 5, when Brendan and Nicole went for it and got robbed as a result. I’d expect the same here.

Meredith and Gretchen decline, and find the Detour – Trunk or Dunk
Trunk – teams must transport a 600lb elephant statue
Dunk – teams must tie dye a basket of 25 sheets to get the clue.

Uchenna and Joyce head to the FF, as do Frick and Frack.

Meredith and Gretchen take Trunk. Romber and Ron and Kelly do as well. All three teams start at about the same time. Rob gets Sanjay to lead the way. Gretchen gets help, and is told to ride on the top.

Frick and Frack change their minds and do Trunk.

Trunk teams are now getting help to push the elephant as Frick and Frack arrive. Lots of pushing, and apparently, Meredith and Gretchen’s is broken.

Ad break

We’re back, and Meredith and Gretchen get more help pushing. Romber are rolling, and they lose a tail.

Uchenna and Joyce are still heading to the FF, Meanwhile, more pushing is happening. Ron and Kelly and Romber reach the temple. Teams must take a rickshaw 8 miles to Deora Krishi Farm to get their next clue.

Uchenna and Joyce find the wrong temple.

Frick and Frack finish third, and are off. Meredith and Gretchen are still going, and actually impede the other teams’ progress.

Uchenna and Joyce are still looking. Romber and Ron and Kelly are on open road now. Meredith and Gretchen get their clue. Gretchen is upset that she didn’t help push.

Romber and Ron and Kelly arrive at the Farm, and it’s a Roadblock – team members must race a camel cart 2 laps. Amber and Kelly take it. Amber immediately starts going backwards.

On the open road, Meredith and Gretchen pass Frick and Frack. At the Farm, Kelly’s got no problems, but Amber’s having problems. Until Kelly’s camel stalls, that is.

Meredith and Gretchen and Frick and Frack hit the Roadblock. Frick and Meredith take it. Meanwhile, Uchenna and Joyce are still looking, and finally find the right temple. They read the conditions, and interestingly, Joyce is pretty gung ho about it. And she’s got some LONG hair.

Ad break

Uchenna checks if Joyce is sure, and Joyce sack at the race track, Amber finally gets on her last lap, while Frick and Meredith are still traversing their first.

Back at the temple, Joyce actually doesn’t look all that bad. Hope she gets to keep her hair. They get the Fast Forward, and it tells them to head to the Pit Stop at Jaswant Thada, a tomb in Jahdpur. And Joyce really earned it.

Kelly finishes, and they’re told to head 6.5 miles to the Pit Stop.

Amber’s camel is circling around just short of the finish line, but eventually gets there after some camel comedy, and they’re off to the Pit Stop. Meredith and Frick start on their second lap.

Uchenna and Joyce, Ron and Kelly and Romber are racing to the pit stop. Frick and Meredith are just racing. Frick finishes, and his team is off. But the camera implies that they might be heading the wrong way.

Meredith and Gretchen finish, and head off.

Frick and Frack get off the taxi, and find – nothing. Looks like they might be screwed.

Ad Break

We’re back, and Frick and Frack find out that they went the wrong way. Now all the teams are heading to the Pit Stop. Ron and Kelly’s taxi needs to get gas, and because of that, Romber catch up to them. Uchenna and Joyce reach the tombs fist, and they are team number one!!

Ron and Kelly and Romber are racing, and it’s a footrace!! Ultimately though, it’s Ron and Kelly that are team number two, and Romber are team number three. Ron notes that they’re all very competitive.

Frick and Frack and Meredith and Gretchen are worried about being last. We see the mat, a taxi, and Meredith and Gretchen arriving as team number four!! I’ve never been so happy to see them not finish last. And they are officially the oldest team to make it to the Final Four.

Frick and Frack are the last team to arrive, and they’ve been Philiminated. And again, those are some sweet words, to hear that these hypocrites are gone.

Next time, Rob sizes out the competition, and Kelly accuses Ron of being afraid of commitment.
