Alpharetta, Ga. (June 7, 2005) – Neither Buckaroo Banzai nor Doc Savage had the courage to go there. But this Wednesday, June 8, 2005, Nick Landime will finish the job and take on the World Crime League in NICK LANDIME VS. THE WORLD CRIME LEAGUE from Shooting Star Comics.
The story is an idea that writer and artist Erik Burnham has been shuffling around in his head for several years.
“It was a joke that built and layered itself into something more, starting the second I added it to the end of the first Nick Landime story,” Burnham says. “It grew like a baseball player afraid to give a urine sample.”
Burnham’s Nick Landime (a pun on “nickel and dime” and not the oft mispronounced “Nick Landmine”) became a breakout character in the pages of the Shooting Star Comics Anthology early on, and in his adventures he has taken on demonic cults, relationship issues with a girlfriend who is often mistaken for a vampire, and a disembodied megalomaniacal head during his vacation in Hawaii. His solo book is part of Shooting Star Comics’ continuing commitment to introduce new creators to the public in full-length adventures.
“I’m just excited to be doing this,” explains Burnham. “Anybody that’s ever talked to me knows how much I enjoy telling a joke — and there’s a boatload in this book, just waiting for an unsuspecting reader. (And, in true World Crime League fashion, I feel the need to rub my hands together and cackle.)”
