OVW TV Report for October 8, 2005

OVW’s streak of hot TV shows continued this weekend as they followed up on last week’s great show with a match that you would swear would be terrible. Bobby Lashley vs The Boogeyman was the main event. No kidding, this was like Goldberg in his heyday. They had the classic old school deal where they had a giant gift wrapped box at ringside all night long, and everyone that walked by it made sure to look at it and wonder who or what’s inside. It was billed as Kenny Bolin’s surprise. Later in the show, Alexis Laree had a handicap diva match with Aaron “The Idol” Stevens’s Valets of Beth Phoenix and Shelly. They started brawling near the box, and The Boogeyman came out. He laid out Alexis, and then also Chris Cage. When Lashley came out, you’d think Austin or Hogan walked into the Davis Arena. Huge pop. Short match that saw Lashley laid out, then flip backwards off the canvas into a spear that has to be seen to be believed. After the pinfall, Ken Doane and Dean Visk attacked Lashley, but he was fighting back and it was great. Brent Albright made the save, and he shook hands with Lashley to end the tv show.

The Paul Heyman scripted TV show also had one of the most shocking dressing room fights of the year, as Matt Cappotelli attacked the greatest newcomer in 2005, Mr. Kennedy in the locker room as retaliation for Jeter and Kennedy attacking Cappotelli at last week’s press conference. Jeter and Kennedy did a great promo together about how Cappotelli loved to chase women, seek thrills, and go after people for revenge. Kennedy was once again the best promo in the biz here. When Jeter left the locker room, Kennedy decided to introduce himself. Cappotelli, who was hiding somewhere in the locker room, snuck behind Kennedy and started mimicking what Kennedy was saying. Then Cappotelli beat Kennedy bloody with the crutches. This was as violent and bloody an angle as you’ll ever see in OVW. Cappotelli did Kennedy’s gimmick of introducing himself after laying out Kennedy in Cappotelli’s best moment ever on OVW TV.

Also, throughout the show, they built up a one hour time limit match between Ken Doane and Brent Albright for the OVW TV Title, and everyone kept thanking The WB Network for giving OVW an extra hour overtime tonight if needed for the match. Al Snow thanked the WB. So did Dean Hill, Brent Albright, and even the heel TV Champion Doane. So they went through the stipulations, because you just knew this match would go a full hour. The match was scheduled for a one hour time limit. The only way to win was by pinfall or tap out submission. If the match goes the whole hour, then referee Robert Briscko’s decision would be final and whoever would win the decision would be the champion. There could be no draw. This was great, it was built up just as good as the box mystery. But Doane kayoed Albright in a few seconds with brass knuckles. Great heat for Doane. This feud will obviously continue.

The Con Man was in the house, picking a fight with Deuce Shade. Shade teamed with Chet The Jet and Seth Skyfire to beat The Tolands and Mike Mondo when Skyfire pinned Chad Toland. The Tolands are no longer bleached blondes, and they looked much better with darker hair.

Elijah Burke pinned Cliff Compton.

Once again, OVW delivers a solid product and makes the most of what they’ve got. Next TV Taping is tomorrow night in Louisville. Information on the taping is available on www.ovwrestling.com. OVW is also now offering their TV shows on DVD format, that information is also on the website. The DVDs start with the month of July, which is the month where Heyman took over the writing. The next few weeks should see Alexis Laree’s feud with Beth and Shelly continue, Ken Doane and Dean Visk’s feud with Brent Albright and Bobby Lashley heat up, and Matt Cappotelli come back for revenge on Johnny Jeter.
