Archive

Anyone else broke already? Yes? It’s only the first full week of December! You still have 16 more shopping days left before Christmas. Only 16? Crap..I better get busy. Oh yeah..no money! HA! I forgot!

No..seriously..I am rolling in the dough. I am getting myself a Dodge Viper for Christmas. My parents are getting helicopters and private planes. My imaginary girlfriend? Wait..since I am dreaming..she doesn’t have to be imaginary. She is real and she gets a 2-karat solitaire platinum princess cut diamond ring! It’s only $15,000! Pocket change..I say!

Yeah..back to reality. Although..I am getting some sweet graduation gifts. Not to late to send me yours either. E-mail me and we can work something out.

But for now..lets get to some television. That is why you are all here. So crank this sucker up into high-gear! Time for the week that was at Pulse TV!!

Seinfeld Quote of the Week

Kramer: “So you started thinking there’s gotta be something better out there right?”

Jerry: “Right”

Kramer: “Ya, well let me tell you, there isn’t. What are you thinking about Jerry? Marriage? Family?”

Jerry: “Well…”

Kramer: “They’re prisons, man-made prisons, you’re doing time. You go to sleep at night, she’s there, you wake up in the morning, she’s there. It’s like you have to ask permission to, to use the bathroom. And you can forget about watching TV. You know why? Because it’s dinner time, and you know what you do at dinner time?”

Jerry: “What?”

Kramer: “You talk about your day. ‘How was your day today, did you have a good day today or a bad day today?’ ‘I don’t know, how about you? How was your day today?'”

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming…

The Weekly Pulse Weekly Poll

Last week I asked the question…”will you be watching the NEW Real World/Road Rules Challenge on MTV?”. So here are the results:

YES..I LOVE them! – 5
NO..I HATE them! – 0
I don’t watch MTV! – 3

Well this one was pretty clear. If you watch MTV and thus watch the challenge, you pretty much love them! If you don’t watch MTV, well then you can’t love them. No one seems to hate them. Well some may hate the show, but they appear to hate MTV more, if that makes any sense. You can check out my recap of the first episode above!

Non onto this week’s question. It is a simple question. See below for more explanation, but here is the question..“what do you think about movies based on TV shows?” So click on the link and VOTE NOW! Remember..VOTE OR DIE!

Time to Talk a.k.a. Who Wants to Watch a SUCKY Movie?!

Have you noticed the number of TV shows being made into movies over the recent years? Have you? Lets see there was Dukes of Hazzard, Bewitched, and The Honeymooners that all came out this year. Before that..you had The Addams Family, The Fugitive, Charlie’s Angels 1 & 2, The Brady Bunch, Scooby Doo 1 & 2, Mission Impossible 1, 2, and soon..3, The Flintstones, Josie and the Pussycats, Wild Wild West, S.W.A.T., The Avengers, and the list goes on and on and on and on and on….

What do all these movies have in common? Yes..sarcasm guy..they are all based on TV shows as I mentioned. But they also all SUCKED! Okay..I shouldn’t say all of them sucked. Some of them were just okay like Mission Impossible. But it was nothing better than a 6 or maybe a 7. The rest were below 5 on the suckitude scale! Sure..if you liked the TV show, you probably liked the movie. But about 85% of these movies should have never been made!

Why were they made then? To make money, of course. Now you will ask me..”why are the movies made if they are going to suck so bad? Surely..people will not go and see a sucky movie..right?” Wrong! They go and see them because they have “stars” they know in the roles and thus go and see them. They may not even have seen the TV show, but then they see the previews to the movie and they make it look so good. They go and see it, only to find out that it SUCKS! Now fans of the TV shows may go and watch the movies as well. They watch them because they liked the TV shows and may think a movie based on the show will be interesting. And sometimes they like them, because the movies are fun and not too serious. It’s a good “popcorn flick”. One that is good to waste an hour or two of your time, but one that you won’t go and rush out to get the DVD when it comes out. But most of the time, they HATE them!

Are there any current TV shows that you would want to see as a movie in the future? For me..I can’t think of any. I know that any movie based on a TV show will likely suck! I may go see it, if I liked the TV show, but I know that the movie will be nothing going into it. So I am more likely to wait until it comes out on DVD, and then go and rent it for half the price of going to the movie theaters and seeing it.

So would I go and watch The O.C. Movie? By the way..I’m writing the script now. It’s subtitle is called “My Life”! Yeah..but would I go see that movie? Nah..probably not. And that is with the fact that ‘The O.C.’ is my favorite show on TV right now! The question I have for you is “are there any current TV shows that you would think would make a good movie?” Drop me a line, if there are any out there.

Now how about the converse of my statement. (Converse means the reverse, if you didn’t know) Can I movie be turned into a TV show and be good? Well..that is another debate for another time. But I will tell you a TV show that is on right now that could have made a good movie. In fact, when I saw the previews to the show..I thought it was a movie. It couldn’t be a TV show. It was too much like a movie. They couldn’t stretch the show out for that many hours. Well..they have and they will. It’s a money-making machine of a TV show and it’s on ABC. Still don’t know what show I am talking about? Does the word ‘Lost’ mean anything to you? Yep..that show could have been a great movie. Okay..the premise has been done before as a movie, but never this good. Disagree with me? Fine. But 20 million viewers each week can’t be wrong!

The bottom line is that TV shows that look like movies are AWESOME, but movies that are based on TV shows? They SUCK!

Well that does it for me this week. Any comments, questions, or suggestions are always welcome.

“Life Ain’t Always Beautiful, but It’s a Beautiful Ride!”

And as always remember…“You Can’t Fight Fate!”. See you next week!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
