The Weekly Pulse: TV's Second Wife

Archive

Alright..so this column is about three days late. I didn’t expect my Internet to act all crazy. And since the only Internet I had was on my new phone..I had to wait until I could get to another computer. But this way..you will have something to read on Christmas day after opening up all your presents. Opps…scratch that. The site decided to act all nuts as well. So it’s the “Day After Christmas” special. Oh well..you can still thank me later. Better yet..send me those gifts!

I would like to thank the people that e-mailed me and told me their reasons why they think cartoons are so popular today. And yeah..some of them made some sense. Cartoon characters can do things that humans can’t do, because of physics and nature. They can do things that seem so absurd..that they become funny. Cartoons can have more slapstick comedy, since no one is really getting hurt. I can see all of that, but maybe that is why they are not my favorites. I can’t relate to them. I like to watch a show and relate to it..somehow. I may think something is funny, because it is real. It could really happen. Yes..cartoons can have “real” elements in them, but them being cartoons makes them not “real” to begin with. So they contradict themselves. As I said, I can watch these cartoons but they are not my first choice. But again thanks to Andrew B and The Great Randolfsky for their comments. I appreciate it.

Now that leads me right up to my next thing. On the recommendations of Mathan Erhardt, I decided to check out ‘The Boondocks’ on the Cartoon Network. That and I saw John Witherspoon on ‘David Letterman’. He is a voice on the show as well. I figured out why I never heard of it, when I figured out it was a cartoon show. Hence..it’s on Cartoon Network, which I NEVER watch. But I decided to check it out over the weekend, because nothing else was on. There were some funny moments in the two episodes I saw. But nothing to write home about. Not like I would recommend it to my parents anyways, but there is still not a lot there to recommend to my friends either. I will still catch it when I can, but nothing that says..“Must-TiVo” for me!

Now that is out of the way, it’s time to move on to another slow week of TV watching. So here is what we had this week at Pulse TV!

Seinfeld Quote of the Week

“Looking at a cleavage is like looking at the sun. You don’t stare at it. It’s too risky. You get a sense of it and then you look away!”Jerry Seinfeld

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming…

Columns a.k.a. The Light Edition II

Mathan Erhardt says Tyra is no Oprah! He also comments on ‘Sleeper Cell’, ‘NY-Lon’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, ‘The Boondocks’, ‘Reunion’ (which he hates but loves to watch), ‘The Office’, ‘My Name is Earl’, ‘Nip/Tuck’, ‘Kitchen Confidential’, and ‘Arrested Development’. He also looks forward to January, which I am sure most of the people around here are as well.

IPTV Feature time once again! This time it’s the TV shows that got cancelled before their time! Find out what shows got picked and what the writers have to say about them!

Sarah Quigley talks about the finale of ‘The Apprentice’ and looks forward to the next season of the show!

Matt Basilo has some random thoughts on some recent episodes of shows like ‘The O.C.’, ‘The Dead Zone’, ‘Nip/Tuck’, ‘Reunion’, ‘Family Guy’, and ‘American Dad’. He was also motivated by me to reveal his love of ‘Adult Swim’ on the Cartoon Network. Glad I could help. And like him, I still have all my shopping to do this week!

Kevin Wong brings you his final column of the year. Why now when there is still one more week? I don’t know, but this one is full of lists and everyone LOVES lists! Check out his best of the best of 2005’s best!

Recaps a.k.a. The Light II Sequel: Light or Die!!

I did the “Chrismukkah” episode of ‘The O.C.’ last week. Check it out if you missed it!

Matt Basilo is out for the year. Say goodbye to 2005 with his ‘Smallville’ recap!

And I guess I am the only one doing recaps now..at least this week. I am back with the new episode of the ‘Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Gauntlet II’!

Tim Stevens has the final two episodes for season three of ‘Nip/Tuck’. First..episode #14. And last..the finale of season three! Will all your questions be answered?!?!

This week we had 3 DVD reviews!

I reviewed Jackass – The Box Set last week as well. Watch the stupidity!

John Cavanagh has the third volume of Family Guy. Which is the first part of Season Four or something like that. Cartoons! Yay!

Robert Sutton reviews season one of The Rockford Files. A 70’s television crime mystery show that started it all or helped start it all!

Celebrities and..Wait a Minute..Go Back to That First One a.k.a. NOTHING!!

That’s right. I guess even celebrities take a holiday before the holidays. We have nothing this week! NOTHING! Check back next week. Better yet..check back next year!

The Weekly Pulse Weekly Poll

Last week I asked the question…”what do you think about cartoons today?”. So here are the results:

I LOVE them! All kinds! – 3
I LOVE adult cartoons only! – 3
I can watch any kind, but they aren’t my favorite! – 4
Cartoons are for kids! I don’t watch any of them! – 0
I like kiddie cartoons, but not the adult ones! – 0

So it’s pretty clear. People watch cartoons now. But they are split on what kinds. Some like just “adult” ones, while others like them all! But most seem to agree with me. They can watch them, but they are not their favorite kind of shows. Man..I am good. The streak continues!

Now onto this week’s question. Which will have nothing to do with what I will be talking about later..so that means the streak will continue! HA! Yeah..I cheat, but oh well. The question is still good, so go answer it! The question is..“which day of the week is your favorite for TV watching?” It basically means what day of the week do you look forward to the most for watching TV? So click on the link and VOTE NOW! Remember..VOTE OR DIE!

Time to Talk a.k.a. My Top Ten Christmas Wish List for Television

Okay..since some of the “top ten lists” this week for ‘David Letterman’ were pretty funny, they inspired me to do a list of my own. Yeah..I know you got enough of that from Kevin. But I am limited with time this week, so this will have to do. There’s a theme to this list. A Christmas theme. So here we go:

My Top Ten Christmas Wish List for Television

#10 – I wish ‘My Name is Earl’ would move to a new timeslot!

#10.A. – Okay..now I wish it would move back or away from ‘The O.C.’!

#9 – I wish ‘Everybody Hates Chris’ continues strong in 2006!

#8 – I wish the hyped-up football season would come to a fantastic end! (College and Pro!)

#7 – I wish it was March already! College Basketball’s March Madness and my birthday!

#6 – I wish to find out who Ted marries in ‘How I Met Your Mother’. Then again..I don’t as its a fun show to watch!

#5 – I wish to watch more great stand-up comedy on television!

#4 – I wish to see more movies based on TV shows! (HA! Just kidding!)

#3 – I wish to watch a TON more reality or game shows, because they are so much fun!

#2 – I wish ‘The O.C.’ would finish strong this season and continue in the “college” years! More drama in the new year!

#1 – I wish to continue to bring you The Weekly Pulse each and every week..whether that means spending a week on it with my home broadband connection or a few minutes and having to post it on my new pocket PC phone! And in addition, I wish for more great television to talk about!

#1.A. – My biggest wish of all! I wish to get paid to write for InsidePulse TV! And that is REALLY wishing!

Well that does it for me again this week. Any comments, questions, or suggestions are always welcome. Merry Chrismukkah to all!!

“Life Ain’t Always Beautiful, but It’s a Beautiful Ride!”

And as always remember…“You Can’t Fight Fate!”. See you next week!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
