Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Gauntlet II – (Episode 6)

Cue the music..cue the entrances..cue the cool water scenes where everyone comes up through the water to the surface and they are dry as a bone! Those were the veterans and now the rookies are already on the beach and they fight it out…

We rejoin the gang at a local bar, where they seem to be the only ones there and that is probably true. We will see what Katie has to say later. Various people are dancing, but the “meat” of this segment is Derrick and Brad. Brad tells Derrick that he has changed since becoming the team captain. Derrick disagrees. They go on to have a formal debate, of course. That means that they curse and threaten violence onto each other.

Challenge clue time! “Get ready to paint the town..red, white, and blue!” Hmm…Mark says that the “veterans” have to step it up, because they can’t afford to lose any more guys.

MJ tells Alton to lead the “rookies”. Alton says it’s a lot of pressure. But MJ and Jamie are behind Alton. They like him as a captain.

Time for the challenge! This one is called Body Painters!! The object of the game is to paint canvases laid on the ground by only using their bodies. And of course, the men have to wear Speedos! MJ refers to them as “banana hammocks” as I am sure you know. He worries about the ridicule and embarrassment that will follow. The rules of this challenge are to cover the entire canvases with the color designated without using your hands or mouths or anything like that to transfer the paint. The team that has all 6 canvases completed..wins this thing. Winning captain gets a Best Buy gift card! Eventhough..I got like 4 of these for Christmas..they STILL don’t even come close to $1,000!

Alton is in the “hot seat”. His team has to win this one. Timmy says this challenge will be a fun time, but they need to stay serious. Um..coming from Timmy..that sounds a little too strange, but he’s right.

Now we get various shots of the guys in their Speedos and those are images I don’t need to see. Give me some girls! Adam says that some of the guys are “stuffing” their Speedos. Syrus shakes his booty and THAT is definitely something I didn’t need to see!

Time to start the challenge..thank god! Members of the team take turns to squeeze paint onto each other’s bodies. Timmy refers to this challenge as a “big Andy Warhol wet dream”. We slip and slide are way into….

Commercial time!

We are back and Katie comments that “being covered in paint is not as kinky as people might think. It is sticky and thick.” Yep..if you ever painted something..you know paint is a little nasty after it dries. “Rookies” get their “orange canvas” done first. They lead. After each board is done, everyone has to shower so that they can put on a different color. “Veterans” are not too far behind.

Adam explains the strategy of the “rookies”. They pour large amounts of paint onto the backs of the guys, because they have bigger backs. The girls then come in and smooth things out with their smaller backs. It actually makes sense. Ace likes being covered in paint, because he is a freak! Now the “veterans” take the lead as they finish their “blue board” first. “Rookies” are not far behind, though.

Randy says the “rookies” have no system with the shower. People are just jumping in and out of it. That is why they are behind a little. Brad says this is not a blowout at all. Any slip up..could decide the game says Adam. “Veterans” still ahead after the “green board”, but not by much.

Jeremy screws up as he still has paint on his legs and the “veterans” scream at the referees to stop him. Cara says it’s too close and that might cost them. Derrick says he is a machine as he works hard to stay in this game. “Veterans” get done with their red canvas first and still have a slight lead. However, Alton thinks the “rookies” will come out on top as they seem be rolling along now. “Veterans” still ahead after the “purple canvas”.

Derrick sees that the “rookies” are right behind them. Both teams try to get their “yellow canvas” done first. Jeremy says this is “neck and neck”. The “rookies” almost seem done. They think they have it, but TJ blows the horn for the “veterans” and the “rookies” can’t believe it. The “veterans” win this one and it’s 3 to 2 for them!

Derrick is ecstatic. “All of his boys are staying!” Someone runs by and throws their Speedo around his neck. Fantastic! Jeremy doesn’t know who is going against Alton, but he hopes it is not him. TJ gives Derrick the gift card.

Time to decide who faces Alton and Alton makes the decision. His choice is Adam. Adam responds by putting on his sunglasses. Is he going to cry?! Alton tries to explain his reasons, but Adam says “yeah..whatever…why not me? Someone has to go.” He says he is the smallest guy here as well. Alton agrees and thinks the bigger guys are better assets in this game. Adam seemed a little pissed about the decision at first, but he is over it now. TJ comes in to spin the wheel and it lands on “Captain’s Choice”. Alton stands up and decides to go with “Capture the Flag”! Alton actually gives Adam a chance with this choice. Adam has agility and has a good shot at winning this. Landon respects Alton for the choice, but doesn’t like it for his team. Alton is a better competitor than Adam.

Time for the gauntlet! You know the rules of this gauntlet. They have to climb the cargo net and grab the flag first to win this thing! The bell rings and both men start to climb. But first..you know what we have to done. Pay those bills!

Commercial time!

We come back and Alton just explodes up the net! It was like his ass was on fire. He runs up it and grabs the flag and Adam is toast! Pack your bags! Jillian calls Alton a “freak of nature” and I agree. TJ agrees as well. “That was sick!” says TJ. Adam says he gave it his all, but it wasn’t enough. Alton is leading by example says him.

Time to say goodbye to Adam. No one is mad at him, which is a good thing and a swift change from the past goodbyes. Alton and Derrick say they will “finish this thing out” as captains.

Of course, we can’t end on a happy note. Brad comes in out of nowhere and tells Derrick that he has changed. We have come full circle. Brad talks about seeing Derrick in the gauntlet. Brad is not scared of Derrick. Derrick is the calm one this time, which is odd. That pretty much puts Brad up next if the “veterans” lose again. Ruthie tries to mediate between the two of them. She calls them both drunken idiots, which is pretty accurate. Derrick says he will kill Brad if they meet in the gauntlet.

Now Katie tries to mediate and talk to her friend, Derrick. Hmmm..she seems to have been drinking as well. But she may be actually making sense to Derrick. Mark pulls Brad and Derrick together in the same room. Brad apologizes to Derrick and says that he perceived certain things about Derrick and he was wrong. Derrick is the captain and he does what is best for the team, so no fighting. He doesn’t want Brad to touch him, though. Derrick says that he will put Brad into the gauntlet..off-camera. But on-camera..they hug!! Awww!

And we are out until next week!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
