Just had time to sit down and write the recap for this episode. I watched it LIVE on Thursday, while I was out of town. So I know what happens..although I will try to pretend I don’t and do it “LIVE” again by TiVo. Um..yeah..so lets just get this one going!
The O.C. – Season Three (Episode 13) – “The Pot Stirrer”
We open up with Sandy and Kirsten. Sandy can’t find his “lucky” tie, and Kirsten had it cleaned. It’s back now. Good luck for Sandy! He will need it as he has to present a proposal to a company to help fund the hospital that Caleb started to build..but died before it could get finished! Dang him! Sandy has to compete with another “group” for the money, though. Seth wanders into the kitchen and he is worn out! Kirsten says he looks “distracted”. Sandy is not convinced that he is “fine”. We find out that Seth has an interview with a guy from Brown. Ryan and Sandy offer to help him practice for the interview. Ryan asks if Summer got one? And Seth doesn’t know. The parental units leave the kitchen and the guys talk. Seth is freaking out about leaving Newport now. He has dreamed about it for so long, but now that it is here..it’s a little scary. I understand Seth. Seth then pours coffee into his cereal to prove that he is NOT okay.
Seth: “Newport..I hardly knew you!
“California…here we come…right back where we started from…California…here we come! Oh!!”
We are back and we are at school. Summer got an interview with Brown too. Seth is not as excited as Summer is. Seth asks Summer if she feels any anxiety about leaving home and her friends and family. She was, but she talked to her boot camp instructor! What?!
Summer: “He’s says you can either ride change or change can ride you! And also there is not room in the trenches of life for whiny, little babies! Want to see my war face?! GRRRRR!!”
That was too cute. I want Summer to be my girlfriend. That doesn’t seem to help Seth, though. Idiot!
Sandy and Matt present their proposal to the company. They have to wait for an answer, but all seems good for them. Matt says the other “group” has a good proposal as well. And they have “wined and dined” the company with all the money. Matt suggests they do that, but Sandy doesn’t want to stoop that low.
Summer and Marissa are looking through pictures of Kaitlin. Ryan comes in and we find out that it’s Kaitlin’s birthday this week. She will be 15! Moving on up! Marissa can’t believe that the “little pony rider” has grown up to stealing money and lying! Ryan still thinks that Marissa can get to know Kaitlin a little better now. But Kaitlin has to go back to school soon and Marissa will be away at college soon as well. Not much time to “get to know” each other.
Kaitlin and Johnny walk on the pier. She talks about past birthday parties. Johnny asks her if she has told Marissa that they have been hanging out? The answer to that would be no. Kaitlin likes the fact that Johnny “handed her a towel instead of taking advantage of her in the ocean.” WOW! That’s a retarded statement!
Dr. Roberts is late for having lunch with Julie. Julie can’t stay now as she has to pick up Marissa from school. Can she not drive now? Julie cancelled two dates before this. Dr. Roberts wondered if Julie changed her mind, but she didn’t. She “felt something” and Dr. Roberts said he did too. They reschedule their date for Sunday. Uh..I think something else is planned then.
Sandy comes to check on Seth in his room. Seth has Captain Oates! Seth says he is nervous about leaving home and Sandy says he felt the same way. But Sandy says he is starting a great adventure. Seth says he just feels things are coming to an end and not a new beginning. Sandy gets a call, so Seth decides to take a walk.
Marissa and Julie bring home take-out to Kaitlin. Julie informs them that she has a “dinner meeting” on Sunday. She totally forgets about Kaitlin’s birthday. She realizes it and tries to make amends, but Kaitlin is pissed!
Sandy comes into the kitchen and tells Kirsten that he lost the offer from the company. They went with the other “group”. Kirsten suggests that Sandy show that company who he really is. He doesn’t have to “wine and dine them”. He seems to like that idea.
Seth walks right into Kaitlin on the pier. Little Katie is smoking pot. She offers Seth some. Kaitlin says it takes the “edge” off and Seth looks like he can use it. Seth says no.
Seth: “I was saving the whole drug thing for college..plus my dad smoked pot at Berkeley..it’s pretty much ruined for me!”
Seth asks why Kaitlin is smoking it. She tells him that Julie forgot her birthday. She thought that they cared about her, but I guess not. Seth says that she is probably sorry. Kaitlin says “that is not the point.” Her older sister is Marissa Cooper. That is bad enough. Kaitlin’s birthday was the only day where people would notice her and not Marissa. Not anymore says Kaitlin. Marissa finds them and says that Julie feels terrible about the whole thing. Kaitlin doesn’t want Seth to tell Marissa about the pot. But says the offer still stands for him.
We come back and Kaitlin’s phone is ringing. She is not there. Marissa is and she looks at who is calling. She answers it and it’s Johnny. Johnny makes it seem like he was calling Marissa and not Kaitlin. Marissa wants him to come hang out tonight, but he will be with a “friend”. He makes an excuse to hang up. Kaitlin comes into the room and Marissa said it was Johnny, but it was for her. Kaitlin is upset that Marissa answered her phone. Marissa wants Kaitlin to come to the “Bait Shop” with them tonight. Kaitlin has plans with a “friend”, though. Marissa leaves and Kaitlin calls Johnny back. Now Kaitlin wants to know if Johnny would like to go to the “Bait Shop” tonight? Evil little jailbait!
Julie comes to tell Dr. Roberts that she has to cancel. She forgot about Kaitlin’s birthday. Dr. Roberts says they can have the party at his house. Julie can’t believe it, but she accepts.
Ryan “quizzes” Summer and Seth to get them ready for their interviews. Summer wants to be herself, while Seth wants to give the Brown guy answers “he wants to hear.” Summer doesn’t play that way, though. She leaves to get groomed for the big interview. That just leaves Seth and Ryan.
Ryan: “So where do you see yourself in 10 years?”
Seth: “Uh..I guess more than anything..I would like the happiness that I have right now..although I guess..what are the chances of that? You go through your life and probably only going to be able to look back and pinpoint like two or three times where you were genuinely happy and then..of course..in those moments, you wouldn’t even have appreciated it anyways because who does. Where do I see myself in 10 years? Umm..I guess I would like to be..right here..right now..in this moment. And not because I am afraid of uncertainty. Because I am not..it’s just that I was taught that when you have something good..you are supposed to hang onto it. You hang onto it with both hands and if someone tries to take it from you..what you should do is make sure that they pry it from your cold, dead fingers!”
Goodness..that was one great Seth speech! Ryan says it’s time for a break and I concur! I am tired..just writing all of that!
Sandy tells Matt to give that guy, Bill, from the company with all the money a call. He wants to take them out tomorrow. Matt says it’s not “official” yet, so it’s a good idea. Sandy wants to take them on a “walking tour” around the hospital. That includes a burrito stand.
Time to party with non-alcoholic drinks at the “Bait Shop”. Ryan and Marissa are having a good time UNTIL Johnny and Kaitlin walk into the place. Marissa is shocked! Kaitlin “forgot” that she would be here. Marissa asks what they are doing. They are just hanging out. Kaitlin tells Marissa to not freak out. Johnny acts like he did nothing, which is true. Marissa does “freak out” according to Kaitlin. Marissa says she just doesn’t like to be lied to. Kaitlin wants to go home now and asks Johnny to drive her. Johnny says he is sorry and they leave. Ryan asks if Marissa is alright. She just wants the truth! You can’t handle the truth!
Johnny drives Kaitlin home and Kaitlin says that Marissa was jealous. It usually happens when a girl sees a guy, who they like whether they admit it or not, with another girl. Been there! Johnny is not sure about them “hanging out”. He brings up the age thing and he says he just wants to be friends with Kaitlin. That’s all. Kaitlin says Marissa will get mad and Johnny says he “can live with that.” Johnny drives off and Seth pokes his head out from around the corner of the trailer. Well..well..looks like Seth wants a little “action” and not the illegal kind. Wait..THAT IS illegal! I meant..eh..nevermind. Lets go to commercial.
We come back and Seth is sitting in his room. Sandy walks in and he hides something. He pretends to be “cramming” for his interview. But he really wants Sandy to leave so he can smoke some pot! He puts a towel under the door so the fumes won’t go into the house. He opens a window so it can go outside of his room. He lights it up!
It’s Sunday and it’s Kaitlin’s birthday! Marissa tells Kaitlin “happy birthday”, but she is like whatever. Marissa apologizes to her about “overreacting” the other night. Kaitlin says she knows why Marissa was so upset. But here comes Julie. She is all sweaty from jogging. Kaitlin doesn’t want to celebrate her birthday. But Julie insists and Kaitlin wants to invite a friend, which means Johnny. Marissa says no, but Julie says yes!
Now Kaitlin comes to talk to Ryan. She says he is invited. And wonders if Marissa will mind if she invites Johnny. Ryan doesn’t understand why she would care. Kaitlin says she acted all weird the other night. But if Marissa and Johnny are “just friends”, then she shouldn’t mind. Ryan recognizes the fact that Kaitlin is stirring things up. She rubs it in one more time before leaving.
Kirsten and Julie talk. Julie and Dr. Roberts have not kissed yet, but Kirsten says that lending her his house is a good sign. Although, don’t go remodeling the place or anything just yet. No kiss yet..after all.
Sandy gives that guy the “walking tour”. It doesn’t seem to work that well. So Sandy tells Matt to do it “his way”. Time to play dirty!
Birthday party time! Kaitlin is swimming in the pool. Dr. Roberts arrives and Kaitlin thanks him. Here comes Johnny! And Kaitlin hugs him. Marissa mumbles something about Kaitlin wanting everyone to know how grown up she is now. Marissa is not happy about this.
Back to Seth as he is still smoking. And we get our first taste of “high Seth”. Ryan knocks on his door and Seth freaks out. He “hides” the pot and sprays some air freshener. He lets Ryan in and it’s 3:30. Seth’s interview is at 4. Opps..Seth lost all track of time. Ryan says it stinks in here. He smells the air freshener.
Seth: “Hey..hey..you solved it! You figured it out. That’s..you’re a mystery solver! You’re like an ‘Encyclopedia Brown’! Didn’t Encyclopedia Brown ‘go on dowwwwn’ to Texas to solve the mystery of the Great Shootout. Hey..how about this for a change? In each match, Encyclopedia Brown vs. The Great Brain..to the death!”
Ryan: **long pause** “Are you high?!”
Seth says no, but Ryan finds the pot under a book that is sticking out like a sore thumb. Busted!
Ryan scrambles to save Seth. He calls Summer, who is about to do her interview. Ryan tells her to stall. Seth will be a little late. Ryan finally drags Seth to school and Seth says it’s no big deal. It’s just pot. But Ryan says he did it in secret and was alone, while doing it. Never a good sign. Seth says it is only because of the stress of leaving home. Two years ago Seth’s live changed. And leaving home..could cause things to go back to the way they were before Ryan. Ryan says that Seth changed and he will be find wherever he goes. Seth then tells Ryan that he got the pot from Kaitlin. Ryan doesn’t tell Summer about the pot. Summer says that if Seth messes up, then “their future together is ruined!” No pressure of anything. Seth goes to walk into the interview, but then turns and runs like hell out of school! Stupid!
Back to the birthday party! Ryan and Summer arrive. Marissa is glad to see them. Summer goes to talk to her father. Ryan tells Marissa about the pot and Kaitlin.
Meanwhile, Johnny and Kaitlin go to her room. She wants Johnny to “give her a present.” You know what that means. Kaitlin asks Johnny what is going on. They are only two years apart now and Johnny said that he liked Kaitlin. Kaitlin wants to know if there is something else stopping them from being together? Johnny says that he is not interested in Marissa. Kaitlin says prove it and they kiss. They go back downstairs.
They run right into Ryan and Marissa. But first..Seth arrives at the party. Seth knows that Ryan told Marissa about the pot and Kaitlin. Right on cue..there are Johnny and Kaitlin as I stated before. Marissa wants to know what is going on. Kaitlin says “Johnny gave me his present” and they walk off. Marissa chases after them.
Sandy and Matt “entertain” Bill with some of Matt’s stripper friends. Sandy doesn’t look too pleased with this. He wants to talk to Bill more about the hospital, but Bill says he is already in. Sandy is shocked. Bill says that “Sandy is trying to take care of him, so he will take care of Sandy. That’s business.” He says that Caleb would be proud. Ouch!
Marissa catches up with Johnny and Kaitlin and Marissa wants to talk to Kaitlin. Marissa says that she doesn’t even know who Kaitlin is anymore. Kaitlin says this is all about Johnny. Kaitlin knows that Marissa likes Johnny. Kaitlin says that Ryan knows it too. Marissa says she loves Ryan. Kaitlin says that doesn’t affect the fact that Marissa does LIKE Johnny. Kaitlin says that she “made out” with Johnny and Marissa seems hurt.
Kaitlin: “You may not know me, but I do know you!”
Johnny and Kaitlin leave the party. Marissa walks back into the party and Ryan is there to meet her. She is not alright. She tells Julie that they got into a fight. Julie blames Marissa. Marissa says a party is not going to fix their family. Marissa is going. Ryan wants to go with her, but Marissa wants to walk. She needs the “fresh air”. HA!
Dr. Roberts and Julie now rethink their decision of dating. They both have a lot of things to deal with. He tells her to leave the key when she is done with the party. Hmmm…
Seth walks back to his room and there is Summer on his bed..reading.
Summer: “Hey Cohen! I’m looking to see if Brown has a course on ‘Human Sexuality’. Because..no offense..but you are so taking that!”
Summer forgot about the interview and asks how it went? Seth lies and tells her that it went great. Summer is all happy. Seth is a big dummy! You don’t lie to Summer! Not again!
Kirsten finds Sandy. He tells her the good news. Kirsten said he did it “his way” too. But he didn’t. Another lie! WOW!
Yes! We get a video montage! My favorite part of the show! Various clips of people in scenes by themselves set to music. We start it off with Sandy and the lie he just told to Kirsten. Next is Ryan. He looks at a picture of him and Marissa as a happy couple. Next is Marissa at the beach..thinking. I bet you couldn’t have guessed that. Then we have Kaitlin at her house..sitting on the porch and thinking. Julie drops the key and walks out of Dr. Roberts house. Summer is reading up on Brown U. She is happy. Finally, we get Seth and he is smoking more pot. The fumes lead out of his room and out of this episode!
