Gilmore Girls – Recap – Episode 6-14

Archive

We return, presumably a week later, to Friday Night Dinner. Things are still a little tense. Richard and Emily bring up the new Yale situation, annoyingly asking if it’s a suitable topic of conversation. Lorelai continues her role as referee between Rory and her parents. Out of the blue, Emily asks how Luke is. Then Richard & Emily try to remember the last time they saw Luke, and I roll my eyes as usual. They were always so nice to him. To make a long story short: Luke’s invited to next Friday Night Dinner. And Lorelai tells Emily the wedding date is June 3rd. She’s not giving up on the dream.

Back home, and very hungry after an unsatisfying meal, Rory calls Lorelai out on the no longer postponed wedding date. Lorelai explains she hasn’t given up on that date: “If it doesn’t, I’ll blow up that bridge when I come to it.” Now if she could only convey that passion to Luke. Then the girls settle down for some couch-potato time, including a nice shot at the artsy-fartsy sci-fi snooze fest Solaris: “There’s a movie in there somewhere. And they also wonder aloud: Where’s Christopher?

More drama at the Yale Daily News. Paris is out, Rory is in as editor-in-chief. Again, whoever didn’t see this coming had to be watching half-asleep. Paris actually gives a decent resignation speech, then promptly exits stage left. Cheers from the staff. I guess Paris didn’t see this coming, and Rory returns to their apartment fresh from being named
the new editor-in-chief to find all her stuff (and I mean all of it) in the hallway. She’s
been evicted.

At the Dragonfly, Michel’s got a problem with Luke as the new handyman. Why? Because Michel feels that Lorelai’s weeding him out at the Inn. Not the case, insists Lorelai. Seemed to be a bit of a forced storyline to get Michel some screen-time.

So Rory’s homeless, and guess who’s going to offer her a home? Logan, of course! He’s got a sweet pad because his dad’s filthy rich. Doesn’t take much to convince Rory – she agrees to move in. The very next day, Christopher visits Yale. “I hate having hot parents,” comments Rory – as dad gets some approving glances from some girls on campus. Christopher is also the first to find out about Rory’s new living situation. And just to make me sicker, he quickly falls for Logan’s snobbish charm – as they bond over getting kicked out of a bunch of the same prep schools.

And we’re back at yet another Friday Night Dinner. This particular one is dominated by insurance talk, as Richard and Emily scare Lorelai and Luke silly with horror stories of friends that were swindled. They even have the gaul to imply that Anna and April might be trying to scam Luke. Luke also catches Lorelai still using June 3rd as the wedding date. They leave the house looking as worn out as Lorelai and Rory two weeks ago. Lorelai informs Luke they’ve been gilmored, hence the title – like being Punk’d I guess? Pretty thin…

The episode concludes with Christopher giving Lorelai the lowdown on Rory, just before Rory spills as well. I love watching Lorelai wince as she attempts to be impartial about the whole Logan thing. Rory says she’s happy, so Lorelai’s forced to be grin and bear it
for now. Side note: What was the purpose of Jess’ visit again (Let Me Hear Your Balalaikas Ringing Out)? I think we all bought in to the theory that it was to wake Rory up to what a jerk Logan was/is, and what she was doing with her life. Guess not. They
look as cozy as ever. Needless to say, I wasn’t thrilled with You’ve Been Gilmored. I
don’t like Logan. I don’t like Rory with Logan. I’m tired of Paris and the whole Yale Daily News storyline. Where’s Lane? Where’s Kirk? Where are some characters I actually like and want to hang out with every Tuesday night? Logan isn’t even a classic “love-to-hate” TV character – like J.R. Ewing from Dallas or Amanda Woodward from Melrose Place. I just hate when he’s on the screen. And it looks like more of the same next week, as the happy new roommates invite Lorelai & Luke for a Valentine’s weekend getaway to one of Mr. Huntzberger’s seven homes on Martha’s Vineyard. Can’t hardly wait…
