The Weekly Pulse: TV's Second Wife

Archive

The Super Bowl is over. Caught the second half as I had to work for most of the day. BUT..my mind was elsewhere on that night as I spent it talking to some lovely ladies at a local bar. And ladies come before anything else..but I saw enough of the game to say that referees suck! Oh well..I didn’t care about the game at all. The commercials were good, but I didn’t really pay that much attention to them either..so I won’t comment on which ones were the best. Others can do that.

Just when things start to get back going strong..we have a MONSTER event coming up..starting tonight..that could shake up some TV watching for everyone! It’s the Winter Olympics, of course! I will talk more about that later.

And I only caught a little bit of the Grammy’s this week. I saw a few performances (Jay-Z/Linkin Park/Sir Paul and Kanye West/Jamie Foxx), but that is all. My Wednesday schedule is FULL and I couldn’t skip some shows for the Grammy Awards. Sorry. I love music, but TV comes first right now.

But lets get to what everyone came here for..and that is what has happened this past week. In case you missed it, here is all the goodness you have come to expect from the people at Pulse TV this past week!

Seinfeld Quote of the Week

From episode #4 of the show, “Male Unbonding”

George: “She calls me up at my office, she says, ‘We have to talk.'”

Jerry: “Ugh, the four worst words in the English language.”

George: “That, or ‘Who’s bra is this?'”

Jerry: “That’s worse.”

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming…

Columns a.k.a. Writing at its Best!!

Sarah Quigley starts our ‘Survivor’ talk for the week. Actually..Murtz and Eliza did that later, but Sarah is the first one to write a column about it this week. So check out what she thought of the first episode of the new season!

Matt Basilo is back on Monday to talk about ‘Survivor’, ’24’, and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’. In addition, he found an error in ‘Home Improvement’. One I remember as well, but didn’t realize until he said it. And a ‘Smallville’/’Superman’ fun fact as well!

Mike Sage tells you what he thought of the first episode of ‘Survivor 12’ as well. He even shares his thoughts on why the ‘Survivor’ show is such a good reality show. Kinda like I did last week with ‘Big Brother’!

Dora Malone jumps into the ‘Survivor’ talk to give us her “two cents” on the first episode of the new ‘Survivor’! And my gosh..she had a LOT to say!

Farah Syed has a nickname..that she made up. Farah the Great also tells you the rules on naming a TV show. What to do and what not to do? Read and find out from Farah!

Kevin Wong previews the new season of his favorite reality TV show, ‘The Amazing Race’! Wait a second..Monica and Joseph are from Arkansas?! The initials are AR not AK..Kevin..by the way. But I pick them to win since they are from my home state and they met at a local bar in Fayetteville on Dickson St..more than likely. AWESOME! Rock on! But check out the other soon-to-be losers of ‘The Amazing Race 9’ and see Kevin’s predictions! Kevin also does a little ‘Survivor’ talk for you as well. But of course he does!

Patrick Gilchriest watched ‘Survivor’ as well and he has the good, the bad, and the ugly from the first episode. You know..the usual stuff. Now lets all compare and contrast and pick which columnist to laugh at first for their WRONG predictions!

Recaps a.k.a. A Few Shows and an Equal Amount of DVD Reviews!!

Romo is joined by Rob Purchase this week as they recap the latest episode of ’24’!

I am back to my usual double dip of ‘Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Gauntlet II’ and ‘The O.C.’!

Craig Russell has more ‘Gilmore Girls’ for you as well!

Trevor MacKay recaps the best episode of ‘Invasion’ EVER says him!

This week we had 4 DVD reviews!

Tom Pandich has a review of both Chip ‘N Dale Rescue Rangers: Volume 1 and Ducktales: Volume 1!

Robert Sutton reviewed season three of Knight Rider! That car is racist..you know!

I continue the 80’s theme as I reviewed The A-Team – Season Three! FUN! FUN! FUN!

Celebrities = Eliza and Her Tag Team Partner!!

Murtz and former ‘Survivor’, Eliza, are back! They have their thoughts on the first episode of the new ‘Survivor’! And before we go..they come back for thoughts on the second episode of the new ‘Survivor’!

The Weekly Pulse Weekly Poll

Last week..I asked the question…”which reality TV show is your favorite?” And here are the results:

Survivor – 3
American Idol – 1
The Apprentice – 0
The Amazing Race – 1
Big Brother – 3
Beauty and the Geek – 0
Dancing with the Stars – 0
The Real World – 1
Other (Name It) – 1
No reality shows! – 0

We have a tie! ‘Survivor’ and ‘Big Brother’ tie! Not a total shock to me. I love Big Brother. Most everyone else loves ‘Survivor’. Both are similiar shows. I was hoping to get a clear winner, but with many option..you could expect a tie. ‘American Idol’, ‘The Amazing Race’, and ‘The Real World’ all get a vote, but they don’t compete with the top two!

Now for this week’s question. The Winter Olympics are here, so how about a question about it. Here is the question..“what do you think of the Olympics?” You like them? You only like the Summer version or the Winter version? You hate them? Never heard of them? Yeah..that’s all an option. Click on the link and VOTE! Remember..VOTE OR DIE!

Time to Talk a.k.a. Olympic Time Once Again!!

The Super Bowl was the big event this past week. It was the highest rated program of the week! But that was a no-brainer. But tonight another event could garner HUGE ratings over the next few weeks. It’s the Winter Olympics! NBC takes off all of its programming for the next few weeks for coverage of the event. FOX did it last Fall with baseball and it somewhat worked. I am sure this will work better for NBC than FOX, because the Olympics only happen every four years..so it’s a BIG event.

However, I don’t like the Winter Olympics that much. I would prefer the Summer Olympics. Why? Besides the fact that I don’t like cold weather that much..I’m not that big on winter sports. I don’t like hockey. I’ve ice skated once in my life. I have never been skiing. No snowboarding either. Oh..I want to go someday, but it doesn’t interest me that much.

I have been running before. I have played basketball. I have been swimming. Gymastics is boring, but you can’t win them all. I can relate to the Summer Olympics more than the Winter Olympics. That’s why I prefer them over the Winter Olympics.

That being said..I will still probably watch the Winter Olympics. But I won’t be glued to the television watching every minute of it. It will be a second choice for me on most nights. If nothing else is on, then I will watch it. And I certainly won’t TiVo it, because it’s hard to do that. It covers a lot of hours and there is no guarantee that you will get good stuff in the particular hours that you TiVo. But if I’m home and there is nothing else on..I’ll give it a watch.

The Olympics mark a third period in the television season this year. Usually..you have new shows in September and then new shows after the holidays. Well..now you have new shows debuting or coming back AFTER the Olympics. Why networks have held off certain shows for this late in the year..I don’t know. But the fact is that other networks know that NBC will get big ratings with Olympic coverage and it’s like they aren’t even going to try and keep up. Now you will still get your ‘American Idol’ and ’24’ from FOX. You will still get your ‘Survivor’ from CBS. You will still get ‘Lost’, ‘Desperate Housewives’, and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ from ABC. All the shows that usually get big ratings for the networks will still be around. But some of the lower-rated shows will be off the air for a few weeks. This may have to do with the fact that certain shows have a certain amount of episodes scheduled and they can afford to show reruns during this time. Or it could be that the Olympics is a big event that will DOMINATE television over the next few weeks.

Whatever the reason is..the Olympics will shake things up in TV land until the end of this month. Certain shows will debut after the Olympics and some will make a return. NBC’s whole TV lineup will get a makeover after the Olympics as well. It only happens every four years, but the Winter Olympics sure do mess up TV for awhile. Unlike the Summer Olympics, which happen in the summer when TV is usually dead, the Winter Olympics will freeze some of your favorite shows for the time being!

That’s all I got this week. Any comments, questions, or suggestions are always welcome.

“Life Ain’t Always Beautiful, but It’s a Beautiful Ride!”

And as always remember…“You Can’t Fight Fate!”. See you next week!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
