Grey's Anatomy – Recap – Episode 2-20

Archive

I’m back with another edition of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and my second recap of the show. There was no show last week as ‘The 2006 Oscars’ took its place.
Honestly, ‘The Oscars’ didn’t do that well in the ratings. ‘Grey’s Anatomy’
could have gotten close to that rating itself. But oh well..we’re back now. So if you missed anything last week..well here you go!!

What You May Have Missed!!

Meredith and George are having sex until Meredith freaks out and starts crying. George believes that Meredith thinks that sleeping with him is awful to her. Meredith SWEARS it’s not true. So tension between them. George grew his hair for Meredith.

Derek wants to be friends with Meredith now. Derek and Addison still have a few problems to iron out.

George could have a new girl after him. A less attractive one, but still a different one.

Izzie likes a patient named Denny.

George moves out and lives with Cristina and Burke now. Meredith wants things to go back to the way they were with George, though.

On with the show!

Grey’s Anatomy – Season Two (Episode 20) – “Band-Aid Covers the Bullet Hole”

We open up with Meredith doing the voiceover again. We see George cutting his hair. Meredith talks about “slapping a band-aid on any problem”. That’s what patients want doctors to do, but that is just a quick solution. You don’t know the real cause of the problem.

Now we see Derek and Meredith playing with their dog. Derek wants Meredith to tell him about what she did. But she won’t tell him. Derek says that friends tell friends their problems. Meredith wants to know Derek’s problems as well. But he has none. So they are friends who won’t tell each other the truth. Fantastic!

We see Burke and George coming back from a morning run. They seem to be buddies now and Christina doesn’t seem to like it. She sees that George cut his hair and Burke says that George has issues. Leave him alone if he wants to cut his hair. “It’s his thing!” That’s how he deals with his issues. Meredith talks about ignoring the cause of the disease and going for the quick fix.

Now we go to the hospital and Izzie and Cristina chat about George’s hair. Cristina tells Izzie the conversation that she just had with George and Burke. Cristina is annoyed by the fact that Burke and George are friends now.

Izzie: “And you’re afraid that Burke will realize that he would make a better girlfriend than you!”

Alex joins them and he thinks that George looks like a hobbit with his new haircut. Cristina wants Meredith to apologize to George, but she tried that already. They all go to their first patient, who is Denny. He is still having heart problems. Izzie and Alex fight over how to treat Denny and both will stay to help him. Alex just wants to keep a close eye on Izzie.

The next patient is a woman having a baby. She wants a c-section. The husband of the woman with the baby hits on Addison. Meredith and George have to team up to help this woman out.

Bailey is carrying around her baby. The nursery is full. Dr. Webber comes in and wants to know what is going on. She asks if there is a problem with it and well..he doesn’t have one really.

Meredith tells that George that he has to talk to her sometime. He is going to take the stairs, though. Meredith gets a page and it’s a new patient. This woman has a guy with her. He has ice on his private area, but the guy is not the problem. The woman has a fork stuck in her neck. Um..yeah. Meredith is in shocked. That means it’s time for…

Roll opening theme!!

Back to the fork lady. It appears that the woman was giving the guy some “special attention” under the table at a restaurant. Derek is here to help along with Meredith. They laugh at this situation. While the woman was down there, her jaw clinched for some reason and well..that hurts. So the guy freaked out and shoved a fork in her neck. She just wants to pull the fork out. But they don’t think so. It seems that she has a brain aneurysm, which could be the cause of the clinching.

Ambulance pulls up and Bailey is still holding her baby. She has to operate. She wants Cristina to take care of her baby for her. No backtalk either about it.

George’s new “woman”, Callie, wants to know why he didn’t call her. He did, but he just hung up before completely it. She comments on the hair and sees that she makes George nervous. She likes that. They go off to “see something cool”, which happens to be a dumb hockey player with a messed up hand. He feels no pain, though. Callie “loves hockey season, because it’s like Christmas every day!”

Meredith is about to pull the fork out of the woman’s neck. Not something she does everyday. The fork is out now without any pain, while the husband distracts her. He wants her to take care of her brain aneurysm. She just wants to live her life, though. She doesn’t think there is anything they can do to help her. Now they all have a laugh about the fork in the neck thing.

Alex is alone with Denny now. Izzie is busy with other patients. Alex basically tells Denny that he and Izzie have been seeing each other. Denny says congrats.

Dr. Webber walks in on Cristina changing Bailey’s baby’s diapers. He wants no part of this and walks away. She has a college education, so she can handle this.

Meredith pushes the woman, who had the fork, in a wheelchair. She informs Meredith that the brain aneurysm has renewed her marriage. They live every day like it’s the last now. And she likes that.

Addison finds Derek and tells him about the husband of the patient telling her that she looked like a celebrity that I have never heard of. He doesn’t seem to care and she walks away.

Izzie is back with Denny now. They play Scrabble. Denny tells Izzie that Alex told him about them being together. Izzie says it’s not true, though. Well..it’s somewhat true and that leads to Denny having an attack as he can’t breathe. Time for a break!

Denny needs a new heart and he is running out of time. Denny doesn’t know if he wants to go through with this operation to keep his heart alive. He needs time to think. He doesn’t have much time says Burke.

Izzie calls Alex in to yell at him. Alex says that he doesn’t become friends with his patients and she shouldn’t either. Izzie thinks Alex is threatened by Denny. But Alex says Denny is about to die and is not threatened by that. Izzie can’t believe Alex just said that. But Alex says that someone had to.

The hockey player wants a quick fix, which goes along with our theme of the day. He wants to play a game today. His mom doesn’t think so. But college scouts are coming today. It’s too risky, though. There is nothing George nor Callie can do about it.

The husband of the lady with the baby comes out to join Addison for lunch. He doesn’t want to harass her or anything, but she is just so beautiful. She is flattered and wants him to stay.

Cristina has Bailey’s baby still and she is not doing that well. Izzie asks George about Meredith and George says he is going to buy a t-shirt that says “Stop asking me about Meredith”..so that maybe people will stop asking him about it. Not likely. Meredith comes in to sit down for lunch with Izzie, Cristina, and George. George gets up and leaves. Izzie and Cristina want Meredith to apologize, but she has tried to. She says “it takes two to make a stupid sexual decision”. Although, he didn’t think it was stupid. She gets up and leaves now. Now here comes Alex and that’s Izzie’s cue to get mad and leave now. Alex wakes up the baby and that causes Cristina to leave now.

Meredith eats her lunch with Derek. He doesn’t know what is going on. But he knows that Meredith is mad about the fact that her friends are mad at her. He wants her to tell him, but nothing still. Even if they are friends. They now hear Addison laughing with that guy. Meredith asks Derek if Addison knows that they are friends? He changes the subject.

Cristina brings the baby to Bailey, who is operating. The baby is crying and Bailey hears it and says that he is hungry. Feed him!

Derek and Meredith tell the woman with the fork about the possible operation that he could do. There is a chance it could work, but the aneurysm could burst. She says “hell no!” She wants to go to Europe and live her life. End of story. Time for another break!

The husband of the woman who had the fork talks to Derek. He says that he didn’t notice her until she became sick. He doesn’t want her to die now and wants Derek to go back and talk to her. He says okay.

Addison tells Bailey about her “lunch date”. Bailey says it won’t fix the problems she is having with Derek, though. Talk to him!

Burke walks in on Cristina with the baby now. He won’t eat. Burke finds this a little funny. Now here comes George to save the day. He picks up the baby and feeds it. Burke cheers George on and Cristina is annoyed. Callie walks in and thinks it’s cute seeing George with the baby. Cristina likes the fact that George could be seeing Callie. That means he could go sleep on her couch! HA!

Mrs. Booker, fork lady, gets a talk from Derek. She doesn’t want to do the surgery because she has a great marriage and life now. But Derek says it’s only weeks long now. She could have a longer life. Derek thinks she is just settling, though. He tells her not to settle. Get the surgery and not settle for anything less than what is happening now with her husband.

Izzie talks to Denny about the surgery with his heart. She wants him to do it. He hates hospitals and if he has this surgery then he has to stay here. She knows this, but she can only support him having the surgery. She says that they need more time as in her and him..need more time together. She says she will be there everyday and that will piss off Alex. So Denny finally agrees. Interesting.

The hockey player comes back to the hospital. He went to his game and had a great one. He tells George this and he appears to be carrying something. Oh..it looks like he cut off his finger to play! Oww! It’s okay, though. He saved it, so they could sew it back on. Awesome! Break time!

Callie and George are sewing the guy’s finger back on. The guy found out how to do it on the Internet. George can’t believe it, but Callie respects the decision. He sacrificed for his passion. George says the finger would have healed fine in a few weeks. Callie says “that sometimes you can’t wait. You want the pain to stop, so you cut it off. End the problem..end the pain.” Somehow I think she could be talking about other things. George says that if something is that painful..it will still be painful. There will still be this phantom pain there. Callie sees that George’s “ex did a real number on him!”

Mr. Booker walks with his wife. She is about to do the brain surgery. Mrs. Booker wants him to do everything they said they would do, if she doesn’t make it. He tells her to not die and she says she will do her best.

Bailey finally comes in to get her baby from Cristina. Cristina says she doesn’t babysit for future reference. Bailey tells her to go back to sleep.

Denny’s heart surgery is going on and Izzie is worried.

Addison walks in on the couple with the baby. The baby is fine and the guy pays no attention to Addison now that his baby is here. She seems fine by that.

Callie tells the hockey player that his finger was infected and he could lose all of the function in his hand as a result. They have to be wrong, though. He got the directions off the Internet! His hockey career is over now!

Meredith and Derek are doing the brain surgery. Derek looks up and sees Addison watching. That sends us to a final break!

We come back and everything seems fine with the brain surgery. Derek tells Meredith that he was kidding and she can tell him what she did..as a friend. There is a line between friends and not friends. He has to react as a friend, if she tells him this. He says he will fix it. She finally does tell him. He is shocked. She says it was a mistake to sleep with George and she needs to repair it. She doesn’t know how to do it. He is at a loss for words. She wants him to say “something friendly”. He says to apologize to George and make him listen if he won’t listen. Say it over and over again until he listens. She asks how she can do that and Derek tells her to “use the elevator” like he always does. They have a smile about that.

We see Derek on the looking out the hospital window now. George gets on the elevator and Meredith runs to get in. George wants to run away. Meredith says he is trapped and he doesn’t have to talk. He can just listen. Meredith says she is sorry..really sorry. “No excuses..just sorry!” They are real friends and she will always be here when he is finally ready to look back at her. He says nothing as he gets off the elevator and doesn’t look at her at all.

Izzie comforts Denny after his heart surgery. She says she is right where she needs to be.

Cristina comes in to find Burke and George playing with some musical instruments. That doesn’t please her. Oh..and Meredith is talking about twists and turns in the world. Just when you think you have gotten things under control, the world shifts and knocks you back down again.

The voice of Meredith says that if you are lucky, you will be left with only something that could be covered by a band-aid. Mrs. Booker is doing fine after the surgery.

“Some wounds are deeper than they appear and require something more than a quick fix!” That leads to Derek and Addison talking at home. Derek says he was indifferent. He was absent before, but wants to fix things. He wants to work on improving their marriage. Addison says okay.

Meredith and her voice says that “with some wounds you have to rip off the band-aid..let them breathe and give them time to heal!” We hear this as we see Meredith look out her window in bed.

And we are out until next week!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
