Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Gauntlet II – (Episode 16)

Cue the music..cue the entrances..cue the cool water scenes where everyone comes up through the water to the surface and they are dry as a bone! Those were some of the veterans and the rookies. Now the rest are already on the beach and they fight it out…

We open up with Kina and Alton talking. Kina wonders if Randy would be put into the last gauntlet if the “rookies” lose today. Alton asks who she would put in there? She doesn’t know either. But they both say they are going to win, so they won’t have to worry about who gets voted in. Off-camera..Alton says it will be Randy, since he’s the biggest guy left. He walks away and Ibis and Kina talk. Kina sees why Randy would go up in the gauntlet, if they go by body type but says it’s stupid.

Katie says the guys are still nervous about this last gauntlet, so the girls are baking them cookies. Julie says it’s important that they keep everyone on their team.

Randy and Kina talk now. Randy doesn’t care about the money. He just wants to stay with Kina for as long as he can and have fun with her. Randy is aware that he could be going up in the gauntlet if they lose. But they are going to win..so no worries.

The “veteran” guys eat the cookies and Timmy says he tastes nothing but love! Awww…

Clue time! “Hey challengers..I hope you brought your ice skates!” Ibis is shocked by this, but Timmy is just kidding. HA! The real clue is “We’re getting down to the wire..don’t let things come apart!” It’s a
“Male Gauntlet Day” and it’s the final one! Derrick tells his team that he doesn’t want anyone to go home. This is the time to see who really wants it. Mark wants to do everything he can to save Derrick from the gauntlet.

It’s Challenge time! It is called “Piece by Piece”! Oh..crap. The challenge is taking apart TJ’s Schwinn signature bicycle, then putting it back together, and finally racing it. There will be two groups. The assemblers and the disassemblers. When the horn goes off, the disassemblers will run to take apart the bike as fast as they can. The disassemblers will use walkie-talkies to tell the assemblers what they are doing. Once the bikes are destroyed, the assemblers will put it back together and race it to the finish line. If there are missing pieces or parts from the bike, then they have to start over. The first team to cross the line wins this one! Ibis says the girls are nervous, eventhough they are all safe. They don’t want to lose any of their men.

The “veterans” talk strategy. No one really knows how to put it together. Randy says he knows how to do that, though. So no problem for the “rookies”. Randy says that him and Jamie used to work on bikes and putting them back together. Kina has no clue on how to do that, but knows that Randy will shine in this challenge, which will be fantastic!

Here we go! Mark, David, Katie, and Robin are the disassemblers for the “veterans”. Everyone is running except David. That pisses Derrick off, since his butt is on the line and David is just jogging along. Landon, MJ, Susie, Jodi, and Kina are the disassemblers for the “rookies”. Kina says that Alton is going nuts on the walkie-talkie. He wants to know what is going on every five seconds. Landon finally tells him to be quiet. HA! We get fast-forward action of the two teams taking apart their bikes. TJ looks on and Alton continues to talk on the walkie-talkie. The “rookies” are the first ones done and they race back to tag in the assemblers. The “veterans” still don’t have a clue really. And Derrick looks REALLY worried as the “rookies” race towards their bike.

Commercial time!

We come back and Alton, Jamie, Randy, and Ibis are the assemblers for the “rookies”. Landon says it looks good for their team as they have the best people down there. The “veterans” are finally done disassembling their bike. They race back and tag in the assemblers. They are Derrick, Timmy, Julie, and Aneesa. Julie says once they get there..it is nothing but pieces. She has no clue and it’s raining outside. It’s slippery and they can’t use the tools that well. Mark tells them to look at the chart for reference.

Meanwhile, the “rookies” are doing good. Randy is glad he could use his experience to really help with this challenge. Everything looks good for the “rookies”. The “veterans” look nervous. Alton gets on the bike and races back to the finish line. Julie and her team see it, but they have hope that the “rookies” might have done something wrong. The “veterans” keep trying to put their bike together, though. Alton is across and TJ checks it. Yep..all good! The “rookies” win! Alton is happy. He made it all the way through as the captain..pretty much. And they are celebrating. One of the “veteran” guys has to go home. Timmy says they were just better. Derrick says he’s once again in the gauntlet.

The rookies are now up $90,000 to $60,000. Alton wins that bike as a prize. TJ congratulates Randy as he considered Randy the MVP of this challenge. Randy is happy about that.

“Gauntlet Deliberation” time! Katie says this really sucks! Timmy says that any way it goes down..it sucks! Derrick says that none of them knew how to put together a bike, but everyone should have gave it their all. That includes maximum effort. Derrick begins to hand out some paper to write a name down. But Timmy wants to volunteer himself into the gauntlet. He sees that the team may want something else, though. Derrick didn’t want it to go down that way, because he wanted David. Based on lack of hustle with his jogging. Julie says that Mark is not going in, because he’s a veteran of veterans. It’s between Timmy and David. The votes are in and it’s not clear. It’s between Timmy and David. Two people didn’t even vote. They are going to do this again says Derrick!

Commercial time!

We come back and David wants to know who didn’t vote? Derrick says it’s hard for people to vote for David, because they are friends with him. David says that EVERYONE has to vote this time. Katie tells us off-camera that she and Aneesa didn’t vote the first time. The reason for her not voting was because David is a friend and that would be stabbing him in a back. David stands up and wants to know if Derrick wants him in the gauntlet? He doesn’t want to, but Derrick thinks he deserves more respect from David that what he got. David says that running had nothing to do with this challenge. The votes get counted again and it’s a tie again. Derrick wants to know what the team thinks? David wants to know how Derrick felt about the entire challenge and not just the running. Julie says that she voted for David and that pisses him off. Now everyone begins to argue and it’s coming to a boiling point.

Finally..Mark stands up and tells everyone that they have to be a team no matter what happens. They don’t need a team divided right now. Timmy stands up and wants to talk for a few seconds. Julie says that Derrick should just decide as team captain. Timmy tells Derrick to put him in. It would be better for Derrick to go up against Timmy, since David is a lot stronger. Derrick doesn’t know what to do. He kicks a table and breaks it. He wants David, but Timmy wants to go in. He wishes the team would had decided. He’s a little angry. The girls are upset.

TJ comes in and wants the decision. Derrick basically just tells one of them to step up. And Timmy does. Derrick is not happy about it. He finishes destroying the table. TJ tells Derrick to spin the wheel, because he doesn’t want to put Derrick’s destiny in his hands. Derrick has battled through a lot of gauntlets..so it’s only fair he gets to spin it. He does and it lands on “Reverse Tug-O-War”! Timmy says the “veterans” are falling apart. It’s crazy. It would be better for him to go home, because he doesn’t believe in the team anymore. The team is too divided. David hopes that Timmy wins, because he wants to keep Timmy.

Gauntlet Time! The last one! You know the rules. Pull the other until they are out of the ring. Mark says that Derrick is a warrior in the gauntlet. We see clips of him beating Adam, Ace, Syrus, and Brad. Mark is not surprised that he took out half of their team. Derrick doesn’t want to lose. Timmy says this is a horrible situation to be in. If he wins, Derrick has to go home and he has the biggest heart here. But if he loses, well he lost..but Derrick deserves to be there in the end. This is twisting his brain. And we are off! Wait a second..it’s over?!?! Cliffhanger! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Yep..we are out until next week! It’s the final episode of this show!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
