Looking Ahead – 30th May 2006

Hello there, and welcome to another edition of Looking Ahead. I am your host, Danny Wallace.

Let’s kick things off with a few customary plugs.

Look on the Bright Side. It’s guys like Murray who f*ck the system of hate many IWC people have for the current wrestling scene. And I love him for it.

J Botter reviews Snow Patrols latest album, Eyes Open. I love it, he likes it, more than enough reason to buy it.

Check out The Weekly Sports Pulse.

If you fancy reading a report I wrote for the hottest fed in europe at the moment, go check out my 1PW Know Your Enemy Report.

Eric S has his News, Opinions, Etc. Why I plug him is a mystery, as he’s probably in the top 5 largest fan following here on IP. Still.. he always plugs me, so I return the favor.

ECW

Next PPV – ECW One Night Stand; 11/6/06

The Announced Card

RVD vs. John Cena

With Paul E’s comments on Raw yesterday about how RVD will win the title, denounce it, and rename it the ECW World title, I believe that we won’t see RVD win. Well, I think he WILL win, but only by DQ or some other crappy way to keep the belt on Cena.

Mick Foley & Edge vs. Tommy Dreamer & Terry Funk

In previous articles (last weeks, the week before) I kept bashing on about how I think Foley’s heel turn was just a setup for an Edge beat down

Speculation…

Kurt Angle

Wow. Kurt Angle is in the new ECW. I can’t say that I think it’s a good idea. Yes, we’ll see some awesome matches for the first time (Sabu vs. Angle anybody?) and he’s a big name player, but I can’t help but think that it’s not a very smart move for his body. We all know his body’s pretty spent, and that he’s got some niggling injuries that honestly should be rested for a few months, so I don’t think he’ll be around for very long in a wrestling capacity.

Also, what the hell are SmackDown going to do now that Angle will/has already left the show? Another main event wrestler gone. Can’t be good.

Still, it’ll be nice to see if they acknowledge the old “Alliance” history.

Jerry Lawler

Another thing that’s catching my eye is the constant ECW bashing by “The King” Jerry Lawler. For 2 weeks now, he’s been on WWE Unlimited talking crap about ECW, and this week he took a shot at fellow colour commentator Tazz.

This leads me to think that we might see Lawler at One Night Stand, which will probably end up with him being choked out by Tazz.

Matt Hardy

A friend of mine suggests that Hardy should become involved with the new ECW, and I could hardly disagree with him. Very underutilized on SmackDown, Hardy could really come into his own again, and get the crowd behind him if pushed right. Plus, it doesn’t hurt matters that he’s been known to take extreme risks every so often.

Mick Foley

It might just have been me, but did anybody actually hear Paul Heyman announce that RVD was his draft pick from Raw?

If not… I’ll say Foley is his pick for the shock factor. Think about it. Heyman also said anybody from Raw and SmackDown could join the ECW roster if they so desired. Foley wouldn’t want to do that thanks to his newly found anti-ECW stance.

So wouldn’t it be a bastard for Foley to find out that he himself was the person that Paul E picked from Raw?

Something to think about.

RAW

Next PPV – Vengeance; 25/6/06

The Announced Card

Edge vs. WWE World Champion

Whey! Finally, Edge is back in the World Title hunt. About damn time too I might add.

The question is, who will he be facing come Vengeance? My moneys on John Cena, simply because I don’t have faith in the idea of RVD winning the title at One Night Stand.

Speculation…

DX vs. ???

The DX reunion is on the cards. That’s obvious. What’s not so obvious is who they’re opponents are going to be. It’s either Vince and Shane McMahon, or The Spirit Squad.

Mickie James vs. Beth Phoenix

As the World waits in baited breath for the reason why Beth is gracing our TV screens and siding with Trish, I’m going to not really take a chance and “predict” that they will end up having a match at Vengeance.

Umaga vs. Viscera

Umaga’s definitely getting a slot on the card, but I’m not quite sure who his opponent will be. Will it be big Vis? Time will tell.

SMACKDOWN

Next PPV – Great American Bash; 23/7/06

The Announced Card

No Matches Announced Yet

Speculation…

The Undertaker vs. The Great Khali

The Undertaker on Piper’s Pit this Friday on SmackDown!.. How great is that going to be!

I thought that because Taker was pretty much destroyed by Khali at Judgment Day, we wouldn’t be seeing him return for a few months until SummerSlam, where Taker would get his revenge.

Rey Mysterio vs. ???

Please not Mark Henry. Anybody but Mark Henry. Saying that, it’s the Bash, so I wouldn’t be surprised.

Other opponents for him could be either JBL, a returning Batista, Khali (God forbid) or a newly turned Chavo. Hell, even King Booker would be a good opponent. Just anybody other than Mark Sodding Henry!

Ken Kennedy

The awesome Ken Kennedy will be making his return to SmackDown sometime during the next few weeks, so it’s obvious to me that he needs a match at the GAB to get him started on a roll. I’d put him up against Lashley with the US title on the line.

The Hooliganz vs. Gymini

Chalk this one up to logic, but Gymini are the only heel tag team on SmackDown that could present a threat to the Tag Titles. Yeah, you’ve got Vito and Nunzio, but they lost last week on SmackDown, and the team of Kash and Noble will make for some great matches, but they need to keep their momentum for another month or so before they can be taken as serious challengers.

5 DVD’s to buy/rent/watch between now and next week’s column:

1. Peep Show Series 1
2. Peep Show Series 2
3. Peep Show Series 3
4. Waiting…
5. Teachers Series 1

A weird DVD list there, but I’ve been watching a lot of Peep Show recently. Waiting is an awesome film, and Teachers (the British version of the show) is just some great TV.

Take care, and I’ll see you next week.

Danny Wallace.
