MTV Mix – Volume 7

Archive

So MTV turned 25 this week. WOW! That channel is a year older than me. Who else is more qualified to bringing you all the MTV action you have come to know and love than me?! NO ONE..that’s who! One show ended this week! But one show returns, so I guess that evens things out. In the next two to three weeks, there will be some shows leaving us and some shows coming back. So enjoy this mix while you still can!

MONDAY

‘Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Fresh Meat’

The recap for this week’s episode is here.

Coral and Evan go home due to injuries and that was not a big surprise or anything. However, the fact that only three teams make it to the finals now IS a surprise. I’m pretty sure Theo and Chanda, Darrell and Aviv, and Shane and Linette will be in the finals, since they are clearly the top three teams in this game. They have distanced themselves from the other teams.

Now Shane and Linette got sent into exile this week. That comes only from the SHOCKING, SHOCKING win of Derrick and Diem in the latest challenge. Derrick picked Shane and Linette, since he was not friends with Shane. Diem didn’t like it, since she WAS friends with Linette. But in this game, the “alumni” overpower the “rookies”.

Aviv and Linette get mad at Diem for sending Linette into exile. They really prove that they are just “rookies” at this game. It’s nothing personal, it’s just business and that means money. They say they are not here just for the money, they want to make new friends as well. That’s fine, but friends come AFTER money in this game. Why else do this show? Just try out for ‘The Real World’, if you don’t want money. If they really have become friends during this game, then they will be friends after the show is over. No matter who wins the money, REAL friends will be friends afterwards. Look at the “alumni”. They are still friends with many different people from past challenges. They even lost to some of these same friends in these past challenges. But yet..they are still friends. Get it? Linette better get over it really quickly and kick ass in the next challenge or exile.

Wes and Casey are extremely beatable in exile, if the other team is focused. They haven’t lost an exile yet, but they have faced “weak” teams. Shane and Linette are a good team. They should be able to defeat Wes and Casey. But I also see a strong chance that Shane and Linette could win the next challenge and have to pick a team to throw into exile. That would be interesting to see and I hope it happens.

‘MTV Cribs’

If you have never seen this show, which I would find hard to believe if you have watched MTV since the year 2000, then here is what this show is all about. Basically, MTV cameras visit a celebrity at their home a.k.a. “crib”. These cribs are usually million dollar homes with TONS of stuff loaded inside them. We see their house, their cars, their family and friends, and whatever else they decided to buy with their money. It’s now time for a new season and new stars’ homes. Lets get started.

The first house in this episode belongs to singer, Ryan Cabrera. Or as I like to call him “Ex-Mr. Ashley Simpson”! His house is in Los Angeles, CA. It’s 4,200 sq. ft. and has 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and a hot tub. His favorite room is the “ping pong” room, where there is a ping pong table and beer on tap. His friend, Danny, lives with him in his extra bedroom. We see his friends playing with Jedi lightsabers like idiots. Ryan only likes ketchup and mustard, because he only likes to eat hamburgers and hot dogs. It also seems that all of his friends stay at his house. Ryan has a 65″ inch flat-screen TV to beat his manager, Joe Simpson a.k.a. Ashley’s dad. Another friend lives with Ryan named Adam and he has an unhealthy obession with Ryan. But he stays in his house, so there you go. Ryan has a dog named Romeo and a red bed. His car is a 1987 Honda Civic. That’s how he rolls! My favorite part of this house is his bathroom actually. It looks fantastic. Oh..and the backyard with the hot tub is cool too. The house is not that big, but since he is not that famous..it’s good enough. I would live there, of course.

The next house belongs to Leah Remini from ‘King of Queens’. She’s a hottie! Her house is in Los Angeles, CA as well. It has 5 bedrooms, 9 bathrooms, and a gym! Wait..9 bathrooms?!?! Why?! Well..it is 10,000 sq. ft. Anyways..her house is big since her show has been on TV for awhile now. Her house is more open with a big entrance and a pool table room. Her husband, Angelo, and their daughter, Sophia, live with her. Her husband is Puerto Rican! She has a TV hanging up on the wall like a picture. Her biggest pet peeve on this show is seeing candles that aren’t lit up and no pictures in the picture frames. So she has her candles lit and pictures in the frames. No look inside her refrigerator, which sucks a little bit. No sex between Leah and her husband now as Sophia sleeps in between them. The best part of this house is the pool outside. It’s one of those “endless” looking pools that seem to flow off the mountain. Nice house with a nice gym as well.

The last house on this episode belongs to Damon Jones from the Cleveland Cavaliers. His home is in Cleveland, OH, of course. It is 3,500 sg. ft. with 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, and a barbershop! He is new to this area as he recently got traded there. Not a big house, but he does have a personal chef. He has a lot of liquids in his refrigerator. He has a suede couch and an office. He is the first NBA player to sign with a Chinese shoe company. He has a great bedroom, bathroom, and a theater room. I like that a lot. His cars include 4 different Merecedes Benz cars with a couple that are not out yet. 2007 models! Best part of the house is the theater room. Sweet!

TUESDAY

‘The Real World’

Tyler is running a 26 mile marathon. He trains hard for it. But he has not trained as much as he should, due to the frequent hurricanes. He ran the Boston Marathon and it was very painful. You can’t run more than 2 marathons a year since they put a lot of stress on your bones and muscles.

Everyone wonders about Jose. He hasn’t talked a lot and opened up to the other roommates. Jose does start to open up with Tyler, Paula, and Zach, though. He had a rough childhood, did drugs, and had a strained family life as well. But he is better now because of it.

It seems that Tyler only told Jose about the marathon and then Paula and Zach said they wanted to go. Tyler didn’t really invite anyone. But John and Janelle get all upset with Tyler over this. He didn’t invite them or at least tell them about it. So we get drama that we really don’t need. Tyler and Janelle go back and forth and the aftermath is Janelle not talking to Tyler anymore. She says she is done with him. Tyler writes John and Janelle a letter about why he didn’t invite them or whatever. John says that Tyler never said he was sorry for doing that, though. So they are still upset with him. However, they get over it and everything is good at the end of the episode.

Jose, Paula, and Zach go with Tyler to the marathon. They are all nervous for Tyler. Tyler is as well. He goes and throws up before the race. Tyler is excited to be running this race, though. It’s test of his character. He starts to run and the roommates see him for the first time on the course around the midway mark. He feels good there, but around mile #23..Tyler has to stop due to an injured knee. The roommates catch up with him and motivate him to finish the race, which he does.

John and Janelle were wrong in the situation with Tyler. If Tyler REALLY didn’t invite anyone to the race, then that’s it. They didn’t want to go anyways. Zach, Paula, and Jose wanted to go. Simple enough. It was just drama that wasn’t needed as you saw at the end of the episode. Tyler running the marathon was neat and I liked that the roommates helped him finish the race. Very nice.

Okay..I should mention here that an old show filled up the slot after ‘The Real World’ on Tuesdays. However, I won’t be watching it or reviewing this show. It’s called ‘Tiara Girls’ and it’s in the same boat as ‘My Super Sweet 16’. ‘Tiara Girls’ is about teenage girls competing in beauty pageants. Doesn’t interest me one bit. Too much whiny girl behavior happens on this show. And I HATE the parents on this show. They make the girls feel like crap, when they don’t need to feel like crap. Enough said. ‘The Real World’ will continue to fly solo on Tuesdays!

WEDNESDAY

‘The Hills’

Changes occur during this episode. The internship with Teen Vogue for Lauren and Whitney is ending. Whitney gets the chance to go for another internship in New York City this summer. Meanwhile, Lauren has some decisions to make. But first another fashion show. It’s “Fashion Week” and Lauren has to do all of these things including finding extra tickets for two more editors. She accomplishes everything in the end after some stressful times.

As a result, Lauren’s boss has some news to tell her. She said Lauren has done a great job there. There is an opportunity for Lauren to go to Paris for an internship this summer. It’s an amazing opportunity for Lauren as it would be the best thing for her career. But she and Jason had plans to get a house together this summer. She has a decision to make.

Lauren talks to Heidi about what she should do. Lauren doesn’t know what it would mean for her and Jason if she decides to go to Paris. They have been through a lot this year and if she is gone all summer, that could mean the end. Lauren breaks the news to Jason. He is all excited about moving in together this summer. But he doesn’t seem too happy about this announcement. He says he will support her no matter what she decides, though.

It’s time to decide and Lauren is staying in Los Angeles with Jason!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Bad move! Whitney gets to take Lauren’s place in Paris now. Lauren sticks around, but may have second thoughts about it now. And Heidi and Audrina can’t wait for this summer as they are both single!

This could have been the best episode ever, if Lauren decided to go to Paris. But she stayed, which automatically makes this terrible! Arrgh! Anyways..here is the list of top episodes anyways.

Worst and Best Episodes of ‘The Hills’ – Season 1

#10 – “Timing is Everything” (Episode 10) (WORST) – Lauren stays with Jason for the summer, which makes this last on the list. If she went to Paris, it would have been #1, though!

#9 – “Lauren and Jason, Take Two” (Episode 4) – It’s official. This is the episode that Jason squirms back into Lauren’s life. Not good at all.

#8 – “An Unexpected Call” (Episode 3) – Jason called Lauren to set up the next episode. It’s not the worst, since we didn’t actually see Jason in this episode. But it set up things for the worst.

#7 – “Boyfriends and Work Don’t Mix” (Episode 6) – Lauren took Jason back after his first screwup. I just don’t get girls taking “bad” guys back!

#6 – “You Can’t Just Be With Me?” (Episode 8) – Nothing really happens except that there is some friction on Lauren’s birthday with her and Jason.

#5 – “Somebody Always Has to Cry” (Episode 7) – Jason screws up again, but Lauren is over it by the end of the episode! Arrgh!

#4- “New City, New Drama” (Episode 1) – The first episode and it sets up everything for the rest of the season.

#3 – “A Change of Plans” (Episode 2) – Better than the first episode, since it expands on the new people and lets you see that Lauren and Heidi are going in two different directions.

#2 – “Jason’s Birthday” (Episode 5) – The first time Jason screwed up and went back to his old self!

And #1 – “Love is Not a Maybe Thing” (Episode 9) (BEST) – Lauren and Jason seem okay, so why is this ranked so high? Well..Jordan and Heidi break up and Heidi learns an important lesson. One that I hope Lauren learns from. Good enough for me.

So this was a fun little show thanks to Lauren and her personality. This show will be back for another season soon. Now will it follow Lauren and Jason during the summer or pick up in the Fall? I don’t know. But I hope Stephen makes an appearance next season. PLEASE! Get rid of Jason..Lauren!

P.S. a preview of a new show on MTV called ‘Two-A-Days’ was aired and it looked really interesting. Typical Varsity Blues/Friday Night Lights type of show, but I’m sucker for those. So there you go. I will be watching that in three weeks! And in place of ‘The Hills’ in two weeks..what show could it be? What else but season three of ‘Laguna Beach’!

THURSDAY

‘Making the Band 3’

The girls go to Los Angeles this week to do some promoting at local radio stations and to film their first music video. I am definitely more interested in this music video than Cheyenne’s. They also get to live in a brand new house, while in Los Angeles. It’s better than the New York City house really.

But it’s time to get serious. They finally get their group name and it’s Danity Kane with their album being called the same thing. It’s coming to you in stores August 22. Free plug girls..now hook me up! Anyways everyone wants to know why that name and I do too. They wanted a name that they could define and not the name defining them. They were in the studio and Dawn was drawing a superhero character. Diddy asked who that was and it’s “Danity Kane” of course. But still people are confused. They just say “Danity Kane” is them and that’s it. No real meaning behind it. Just a name. They do sell the album and the group to the people at this radio station convention thing.

The first problem comes with Laurie Ann Gibson, their choreographer. They perform for her, dancing to their new song called “Showstopper”. It doesn’t go that well. They have slacked off on their dancing. They were busy doing everything else. Laurie is mad. They are missing parts of their dance routine. So they work and work on it until they get it right. Laurie just wants them to stay focused on their dancing and everything will be fine. Just don’t get caught up in all the hype.

Time to shoot their music video now. Their director for this video is Jessy Terrero. He’s done a lot of videos for other hip-hop artists. There are cameras everywhere on the set. They have this show’s cameras. They have another MTV show’s cameras called ‘Making the Video’, which does what it says it does. It follows the girls around as they make this video. There are also various news cameras from shows like ‘Entertainment Tonight’. Aubrey is a little too excited about the ‘Making the Video’ cameras. But because of all of this activity, they are behind schedule on the shoot. Here comes Diddy and we are ready to go. He is in part of the video with them. The girls look smokin’ hott in the rest of the video! And everyone is excited throughout the entire video process.

The next problem comes when Wanita can’t drive the car that is in the video. Some funny stuff with her trying to start it, reverse it, and park it. So swears it’s the cars’ fault, though. They are still WAY behind schedule. They get to the final shot of the video and it’s the moment that Laurie was talking about. It has to be night for this video, but they have been doing this for almost 12 hours now, which means the sun is coming up pretty soon. Now this where the girls get nervous, but everything works out fine. They nailed the video shoot. Diddy said they did an excellent job on this video for it being their first one. He tells them to savor this moment, though. It won’t come around again.

Okay..there is one more episode left this season. But this episode was great. It was entertaining throughout. Plus, I think the “Showstopper” song. It has a nice beat and their singing is pretty good in it. There was little drama in the end, but there was definite tension during the episode.

‘Run’s House’

The main theme for this episode is stress and how Rev Run deals with it compared to his brother, Russell Simmons. Russell does Yoga, while Run has a “Zen Room”. It includes candles, waterfalls, and Kenny G music! Yeah..you heard me..Kenny G. There is just something funny about that. But I can see how it’s relaxing. But still it’s Kenny G.

JoJo has his own rap group with his friend, Zack. He wants his uncle, Russell, to sign them to his label. But he talks to Run about it first. Run doesn’t think that Zack looks like a rapper. Run is not going to stand in JoJo’s way, though. Run says that people usually have to work extra hard in the music industry if they know people like this. JoJo and Zack work with producer, White Boy, on their material for an album. Run says if the stuff is not hott, then he won’t back it. They recruit the entire family, minus Run, to do some “hey’s” and “ho’s” for the chorus. JoJo finally lets Run listen to their finished song and Run likes it a lot. He thinks it could be a hit. Run says he’s not going to give it Russell, though. He is going to run with this song on his own.

Russell takes Run along for some Yoga to relax. Vanessa and Angela comes along as well. Run doesn’t take it that serious. He’s like the class clown or something. There is also a lot of relaxing going on here and as a result, there is a lot of expelling of gas..if you know what I’m saying. However, Run doesn’t finish Yoga. He quits halfway through the session. Line of the night goes to Diggy when he calls Run a “Yoga School dropout”!

Run and Russell go to visit their other brother, Danny, as well during this episode. Run tells a funny story about how Russell is supposed to be all spiritual now, but goes and hits a guy with a Subway sandwich. Danny thinks that Run should be counseling Russell or something instead of laughing about it. But it’s funny says Run. Run eventually takes Russell back to his “Zen Room” to listen to the waterfalls. But Russell lasts 8 seconds in that room! HAHAHA!

At the end of the night, it’s time to relax. Run is in the bathtub and finishes with “Do you have inner peace? Life is never without conflict, the issue is how we deal with it. Don’t let the things that bug you, force you to bug out. Cultivate a zen garden inside your mind, so that even in the midst of chaos, the center remains calm!”

This show is still going strong. Pretty funny, but not the funniest stuff ever on the show. But still..nothing that bored me so that’s always good. I loved the interaction with Run and Russell and their other brother, Danny, as well. Solid episode overall.

‘Pimp My Ride’

Xzibit helps Tad this week. He has a 1989 Range Rover. Funny thing to start with Xzibit making fun of all of the shows that have copied this show. Tad is from Ethiopia. He bought this car from his godfather for $3,500. Bad move, but he’s new to the United States. It has this awful zebra, checkered flag stripe down the middle of it. There is nothing behind the front seats. There is not really a back seat. Just tires and junk. Tad wants to go back to Africa after he gets done with school to help their water treatment system.

The car is just dirty on the outside and the hood is all screwed up. But Xzibit applauds Tad for putting chicken wire around it so that it doesn’t fly up. There is also a saddle inside the car as a “seat”. The theme for this car is “The Way of Life”, which means doing things in a car that you wouldn’t normally do, but need to do to ride in this car properly.

The GAS crew get to work. Mad Mike hooks up a satellite system up on the roof of the car. It can get internet, HDTV, and an online phone that can be used anywhere. Mike also puts in two 20″ monitors in the back that fold out like doors. The color will be candy tangerine with pearl white racing stripes. The interior is a blue color and there will also be a freakin’ water bed! Did I mention they also installed a system that makes water from of the air? Yeah..that’s science for you. It turns air molecules into liquid. Also, a USA flag and an Ethiopia flag come out from the antennas of the car by remote control.

The car ends up being pretty sweet! The color is crazy and that HUGE satellite on top of the truck is nuts as well. Besides the high-tech stuff, the best part of this car is the water bed in the back of it! That’s awesome! The water-making machine is pretty cool as well. The car was not that bad looking to start, but this has to be the most AWESOME stuff in this car so far! Xzibit also hooked up Tad with two plane tickets from Ethiopia to the United States so that family members can watch him graduate from school. Nice.

Next Thursday, this show gets moved back 30 minutes so the new season of ‘Wild N’ Out’ can take this spot. Will I be watching that show? Yeah, but will I be reviewing it? Not sure. I will try, but we’ll see.

And that ends the 7th volume of the “MTV Mix”! If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or feedback of any kind..send them my way!!

I’ll see you next week when we mix things up a bit!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
