CBS Tuesday – 9/19/2006

Shows

So CBS’ Tuesday lineup kicked off last night, and the first thing I discovered is that I can watch the HD channels even though I don’t have an HD-ready television. Sure, that seems trivial to you, but for me that means I can watch the shows in widescreen, and for me, that’s huge. Hey, I’m looking for work right now, so it’s little things like this that keep me going.

The Unit
We get to see the season premiere of The Unit, and it seems like they’re trying to wrap up some of last season’s “cliffhangers” while showing a mission for the operators.

Tiffy and Mack are preparing to move, and Kim, being the nosy bitch she is, takes it upon herself to counsel the Gerhardt girls about Army life and how you always move around. And of course this ends up not happening, as Tiffy decides to stay on account of her helping little boys with their problems. No, not those kind of problems. Of course, these lead me to ask a few things:

– Can a Change of Station be refused by simply ripping up the papers? This doesn’t seem likely.
– When did Tiffy go from a woman who cheats on her husband with his C.O. to caring teacher?
– If Mack resigned from 303 Logistics, can he get back in just like that?

I also found it funny that so much stuff happens behind that door in Logistics, yet noone has stumbled into there by accident and discovered what it is that they actually do in there. Or maybe that’s a story they’re working on.

Smith
I’d been eagerly awaiting this show, and I have to say that I wasn’t all that impressed with the Pilot. There was a lot of focus on the characters and perhaps not enough focus on the job, but there were a lot of characters and plot threads to cram into one hour, so I suppose I need to reserve judgement until the second episode.

Things I’m wondering about:
– What is Hope on parole for?
– Could she not drive down the street and spot Bobby’s car in that car port?
– Bobby’s “job”. I guess “Charlie” got him the position, and the manager obviously has an inkling about what’s going on, so why not rat him out?
– The jobs. Bobby’s already stated that he wants to do only 3 or 4 more heists. So does that mean we’re getting multiple episode arcs?
– The FBI. Obviously, this is meant to be a continuing subplot, but if this show gets yanked, these guys will figure things out faster than Agent Mahone on Prison Break. A perverse part of me actually hopes that this will happen just so I see how they resolve the series.
