BLATT vs. ECW for 12-05-06 – The XFL 2 edition

“I’m close to done. Thanks.” – Rob Blatt

This sucks. I’m glad I just about forgot that Sunday night was December to Dismember. I was working regardless, but it’s a good thing that I didn’t get my hopes up. Lashley with the ECW title is not a good thing. Hell, Big Show with the ECW title isn’t a good thing either. ECW has lots of problems, some of them I ran down with the ROH guy Pulse Glazer in a Modest Response last week.

So in thinking about the timeline, next week probably marks the beginning of ECW 2.1 according to my calculations. If this whole thing with Heyman is actually true. If you haven’t read the news, check out IP news coverage here. Formulate an opinion and give let the other diehards hear it here.

Tonight we’re taped live before the RAW broadcast. If you’re impatient, check out the spoilers already posted.

ECW on SciFi – 12-05-06

I’m done. Thanks
Oh Jesus. After a recap of December to Forget, we get the “I’m done. Thanks.” video that has been on ECW.com for a day now. Heyman is crying and talking about how the Big Show got ripped off and lost the title unfairly. How the Big show carried the promotion from the bingo hall to world famous. If you don’t know, Heyman supposedly filmed this after the PPV, before Heyman was sent home and had the book taken away from him before the ECW tapings Monday afternoon.

Rob Van Dam and CM Punk over Test and Hardcore Holly by DQ
Ugh, RVD has a live mic and a script. RVD blames Heyman for Sabu being taken out. He and Punk do the point to the Shiek thing before the heels come out. Styles brings up Vince dismissed Heyman and sent him home. This seems a bit too much openness from the E for this to be legitimate. Rob Van Dam has the crowd support despite Holly and Test’s best efforts to frustrate the crowd into chanting for TNA.

The heels have control until RVD can tag in CM Punk, who manages to take out Holly and Test single handedly. These guys really made Punk seem like a champ. Right before CM Punk proves he’s superior to everyone on the roster the security force comes out and attacks Punk. The security force has control until Sabu comes out and clears house with a chair. One of the Bashams takes a Uranage, Anaconda Vice, Five Star Frog Splash and a chair assisted double leg drop. Sabu’s music plays and RVD is takling to Sabu kinda close. I bet it sounded like this:

RVD: How long left in your contract?
Sabu: I have to check, we gotta get out of here.

Tommy Dreamer over Daivari by DDT
Daivari is out in the ring and spewing his crap and challenges Tommy to a December to Dismember rematch. Tommy is game for one more match and is playing up his injured back and as soon as Dreamer hits the ring, Daivari has control. Daivari targets the back, which it looks like Dreamer bandaged with an Ace bandage to emphasize that his back is in rough shape. Dreamer takes control, hits a sick DDT and gets the three count. This draws out Khali, who lays out and choke slams Dreamer onto a steel chair. If you remember Dreamer’s first feud in ECW 2, he got his ass kicked on a regular basis by the Big Show for the first few weeks to help establish the Big Show, as if he needed establishing.

December to Dismember recap, followed by Styles and Tazz saying that ECW is next Saturday at 8 pm instead of Tuesday night at 10pm. SciFi is running a Lost Room mini-series marathon. To think that the show is being pre-empted by something that’s not even live.

The Big Show is backstage talking about how Lashley didn’t actually beat him, it was five guys with weapons that did. Interesting to think that this might be the absolute last promo that the Big Show cuts in the WWE.

Kelly Kelly vs. Ariel
I’d like to make it known that I think I prefer Ariel to Kelly Kelly. I still want Ariel to win despite Knox treating Kelly like Sid treated Hogan during their Saturday Night’s Main Event tag match.

Kelly is still upset in the ring after the break as Ariel makes her way out to the ring with Kevin Thorn by her side. Ariel’s wearing some nice Daphney style pigtails. Hot. Mickie Henson ejects Thorn before the match begins to make this match only slightly unfair in favor of Ariel.

Once the sports entertainment is out of the way the match begins and Ariel begins to pound pound on Kelly Kelly. Ariel argues with the ref about her closed fists and Kelly Kelly rolls her up for a three count. Oh well, so much for wrestling.

Mike Knox makes his way to the ring wearing his jacket and slacks that he has to wear thanks to the dress policy of the WWE. He begs begs for forgiveness from Kelly. He gets Kelly to finally give in and then he apologizes for not dumping Kelly earlier.

Popo-Zao!

Insult turns to injury as he throws the roses he brought out in her face and hits her with his finisher. The crowd perks up when Tazz hits the ring and clears out Knox. Knox strolls to the back as Tazz and the ref check on Kelly in the ring.

Big Show vs. ECW Champion Bobby Lashley
It’s main event time and of course that means that two of the biggest guys on the roster HAVE to be the guys participating. I’m a fan of big man matches, so keep that in mind as you read this. Lashley has the opportunity to play the quicker guy in this match, and will showcase if he can adapt to different situations in the ring. Show slows down the momentum when he can, Lashley does his best to keep his offense quick. A few minutes into the match, Show gets a bear hug, probably to give his back a break. Lashley goes for a bodyslam, but falls back form the weight of the Big Show. And then…

commercials

Another December to Dismember recap DURING THE MAIN EVENT. Why do we need to know about this while the match is supposedly going on? During the break the Big Show had control in and out of the ring.

Tazz’ commentary on ECW really speaks for how good of a play by play guy Michael Cole is. Styles just isn’t used to working with someone yet, or he’s changed his style so dramatically that he’s just not his old self anymore. Tazz’ color comments are relatively useless. “Lashley goes high, takes him off his feet. Lashley goes low, takes him off his feet.” In a show that they can re-record the commentary, this is sub-par even for Tazz.

Back in the match, Show continues to have his way with Lashley. Slowly. So slow he puts an abdominal stretch on Lashley. Lashley eventually gains momentum and gets some kind of weird looking body slam on him. Show is slow to get up as Lashley stalks him and eventualy gets a pretty god slam on him to get the three count and ends the Big shows career.

The Inside Pulse
Not as bad as anticipated, and certainly not as bad as December to Dismember. But not great.
