I thought I may be able to get through reviewing two Marvel comics this week without having to touch on Civil War. Well, I only managed to get through one with mentioned the dreaded cross-over, and that was an Ultimate title.

I’ve only really discovered She-Hulk with Volume 2, but its been one of the best titles to be added to my pull-list in the last couple of years (for those that are wondering, other contenders would include Criminal and, surprisingly, The Lone Ranger).

This issue follows on from Shulkie’s status as a ‘registered combatant’, in her new role as an agent of Shield (and the ‘suiting-up’ panels have to be seen to be believed).

As fans of the Hulk would know, everyone’s favourite Banner has been off-planet for a serious stretch of time, and it has become apparent that Hulk’s standard foes are getting restless, to say the least.

Jennifer has to face up to the Abomination, and you don’t need a Ph D in Hulk continuity to enjoy the confrontation. Slott combines a fight-scene with his trademark humour to make this issue service both as an entertaining story, and also a continuation of the running Civil War narrative (see, Marvel writers? It can be done!)

I particularly recommend that avid readers watch out for the Agent Cheesecake interlude – it made me laugh out loud, and serious disturb the other customers in the cafe where I read this issue.

The art is done well, with Jennifer being pencilled as a beautiful woman, with the colourist simply being left to insert those green tones that we all know so well.

There’s not really a lot to add here. Some knowledge of the past dozen issues of She-Hulk certianly assists with understanding, but this is about as close to an entertaining story (withot baggage) as is possible in today’s cross-over happy environment.

Well done to all.
