UFC Fight Night Preview

Previews

Thursday at 8pm, The Ultimate Fighting Championships presents UFC Fight Night Live (from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, FL) as the lead-in to the second season of Pros vs. Joes, which features the UFC Hall of Famer (and recently unretired) Randy Couture. And the best way to do that is to feature Rashad Evans in the main event? Yikes.

Here are your fights (all records from the UFC website):

Undercard:
Welterweights: Ross “The Gladiator” Pointon (4-8) vs Rich “No Love” Clementi (22-6)

Curtain jerker which Clementi should win. Like Josh Haynes, Pointon’s dropped two weight classes since TUF 3, but I don’t see that as helping him a whole lot.

Lightweights: Clay “The Carpenter” Guida (21-3) vs Din “DinYero” Thomas (21-7)

I’m hoping that this fight makes it on the show.

Middleweights: Ed “Short Fuse” Herman (13-4) vs Chris “The Exorcist” Price (8-1)

After losing to “The TUF Killer” Jason Macdonald, Herman’s gotta prove that he desrves that contract Dana White gave him.

Welterweights: Chad “The Grinder” Reiner (13-1) vs “The People’s Warrior” Josh Burkman (18-3)

Given the popularity of poker, is calling yourself a “grinder” in MMA a good thing?

Middleweights: Dean “The Boogeyman” Lister vs. (9-4) vs Nate “The Great” Marquardt (27-6-1)

Live Fights:

Lightweights: Hermes Franca (17-5) vs Spencer “King” Fisher (20-2)

I’m kinda disappointed that Fisher didn’t make the Top 5 in our year end awards for his knockout of Matt Wiman. It was a thing of beauty, where Fisher hit Wiman with a flying knee, and walked away because he KNEW Wiman was out. And then he did the Flair strut. I don’t see any flying knees happening against BJJ fighter Franca, but I’m expecting a good fight between these two.

Heavyweights: “Irish” Jake O’Brien (9-0) vs “The Texas Crazy Horse” Heath Herring (26-11-1)

This should be interesting, as I think this will be Herring’s first fight in a cage in a long time, if not first ever. But based on what I’ve heard about Herring, I’m expecting this to be entertaining, and that’s a good thing for the heavyweight division.

Light-Heavyweights: Rashad Evans (14-0) vs Sean Salmon (9-1)

I don’t know much about Salmon, but his only loss is via submission to David “Not Gangrel” Heath, and that most of his wins are by submission. I’m expecting yet another 3 round Lay and Pray effort from Rashad.

Remember, watch the fight, then watch the Joes get beat up by Pros!
