The O.C. – Episode 4-9 – “The My Two Dads”

Summer and Seth both don’t want to get married right now. The beauty of this whole thing is that neither will tell the other person how they feel. Seth tells Ryan that he doesn’t want to get married right now and really only did because he thought Summer was pregnant. Summer tells Taylor that she wants to get married to Seth some day, but not now. They won’t tell each other, though, for the fear that they will disappoint the other person. Even though, they both know that the other feels the same way. Doesn’t make much sense, but that’s Seth and Summer’s relationship and why it’s so great.

Meanwhile, Frank meets with Sandy and tells him that he wants to see Ryan. He wants to talk to him for a few minutes. Sandy doesn’t know, but finally agrees to see what he can do. Sandy talks to Ryan and sees if he wants to talk to his “father”. After thinking about it, Ryan tells Sandy that he doesn’t want to see Frank right now.

We get another new character here. His name is Will and he is played by the young R&B star, Chris Brown. Will is a smart guy in school, who is also in the band. He gets assigned to tutor Kaitlin, who is slacking and not doing well in school as usual. You can tell that an odd friendship, if not more, is being formed here. I don’t really have an opinion on that, but opposites attract.

The fun between Seth and Summer continues as they both reveal, to other people, the real reason why they won’t tell the other how they feel. It really goes back to the Cristina/Burke relationship on Grey’s Anatomy. They don’t want to give the other person the “upper hand”. They want to win and if they give in first, they won’t win. So now it’s a war to see who can up the stakes of this wedding even more, so that the other will break first. That’s just fantastic and works 10 times better than on Grey’s Anatomy, because that’s Seth and Summer. That is what makes them great together. Seth trumps Summer, who wanted them to go to Vegas to get married, when he says that he wants to ask Summer’s dad for his permission to marry Summer before they get married.

Ryan finally decides to meet Frank. He even invites him to dinner with the Cohens. Why the change of heart? Frank tells Kirsten and Julie that he is dying. Of course, that comes after finding out that Ryan doesn’t want to see him. So Sandy thinks he is lying. Still Frank seems to have changed and Ryan seems glad to have visited with him. Frank WAS lying, of course, and Sandy forces Frank to tell Ryan the truth in the end. Not before Sandy punches Frank in the face with Ryan breaking up the fight. That was an awesome Sandy moment right there.

Of course, Julie has to attempt to steal the show. As Frank is leaving Newport Beach, they say goodbye. Frank gives back the stuff he stole from Bullit and Julie to find out where Ryan lived. They then exchange a kiss, which shocks Julie, but is right up her alley. She’s already been with Seth’s grandfather and Summer’s dad. Why not make it 3-for-3 and marry Ryan’s dad.

What was really cute during this episode was that fact that Taylor was nervous about meeting Ryan’s father and all of that. Even though they haven’t been together for a long time, she still cares about Ryan and this episode showed how great they are together. She was with him every step of the way. Small stuff, big stuff, whatever. It’s now safe to say that Ryan and Taylor are in a “relationship”..I think.

Sir Linksalot: The O.C.

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
